CEL not working, need to smog

I searched but could not find an answer. I have a 1992 Plymouth Laser RS AWD. Car was sitting in my shop for about a year before I got it running again. Runs great and its time to smog. CEL does not turn on, I pulled the cluster and the bulb is fine. Not sure where to start. From searching some say it could be ECU. It was working before I swapped the new motor. Could I have missed a ground? Thank you in advance.

Your going to have to pull that code to identify the cel, no way to tell what you unless you know for yourself what that code is so find out what it is and youll know your cel issues.

Ecu is possible im thinking its some code unless the ecu doesn't work.

I don't have a code. The problem is the CEL does not turn on at all. Usually when you turn on the ignition the CEL comes on then turns off to show that it works. Mines does not turn on at all. I pulled the cluster and it is not the bulb. I'm just not sure where to start to check.

Oh I see I remember I had that problem mine came on and off I thought it was a code one day it was on tried to pull a code couldn't then no cel at all found out it was the ecu I would pull it out and inspect it for burned up caps, in the center of the board of anything that looks bad chances are its your ecu. so go get it and open It up.

With ignition key on, do you have 12v at pin 64 ? Apparently its connected to mpi circuit ? Could be an ecu acting up, does the car start normally ?

It was the ECU. I put in another and CEL works.

Have fresh oil in the crankcase and a hot motor when you go get it sniffed !
