EGR / headswap help?!?!

I did a 1g head swap onto my 2g. Everything is good to go except for the egr. The sensor is mounted right up top on a 2g intake mani, but on the 1g you have to weld a plate or something? What is the purpose of doing that? Do you weld a plate with the sensor and then drill into the 1g intake mani? I realy don't understand what to do for that. Anyway to just "trick" the sensor or get rid of it compltely?

On my car I just took the egr and traced it onto a peice of aluminum and made a plate that fits between the egr and the manifold. I also just unplugged all the vaccum lines off the throttle body to make the engine bay look cleaner.
