All light weight flywheel newbie threads are merged here.

I'm looking for my car to be very fast at lower speeds; my main goal is very fast acceleration. Will a lightweight flywheel be beneficial to this? Or should I just save up all my money and drop a turbo on my 84k engine :)

The best thing i can think of other than being the lightest flywheel we can buy, is the fact that with fidanza you can just simple interchange the disc without having to replace the whole flywheel, it has screws on the plate that you can simply remove and throw a new plate on......good thinking on fidanza's part

Just realize that you will need to adjust your launching technique, as less rotating mass=less inertial assistance

Don't forget the down side: possible idle problems, easier to stall due to lower inertia. Not trying to discourage, just trying to make sure you get the complete picture.

I just put a Fidanza in with my Spec stage 2 clutch. I didnt get to test it with my stock turbo, but with my 20g I get lag into every gear now and its pain to launch. Regular driving and taking off aint tooo bad but I dont think I really like it. Thats my opinion

That's what I just went through. Spec 2+ and Fidanza. The combination of a grabby clutch, lower engine inertia, and weird idle had me stalling about 20 the first couple of days.

yes i do also agree it takes a lot of learnng and adjusting to the lightened flywheel but in the log run, 100% worth it.

When you instal lightned FLW ..you have less mass to rotate..but you have less torque...and in TOP End power its importen...Drag race... same with Pulleys..of course talking about stock engine with just Lightned FLW.
I know turbo Engine got LOT OF torque..it is my opinion.
BTW
runing on Fidanza too..with SBR3500 and have to tell ya..I didn´t felt any change:coy:
Maybe because FLW was install in Nowember and run car after spring...long time didn´t drive..

if its definetly a daily driver i would NOT ever use a fidanza but if its a track car/ race car/ toy,etc... then i would most definetly go fidanza. Daily driving on a fidanza, especially if you have to commute, is somewhat of a pain in the butt.

bah dont listen to all these naysayers iv had my fidanza for almost over a year and love it. and i have lots of expierence with it. I drove on the stock flywheel and stock clutch then upgraded the clutch then upgraded the flywheel then upgraded the turbo and in all these cases i think the flywheel made a big improvement the only downside i have with it is that it has a tendancy to stall if you wind out first gear then push the clutch in but a easy solution to that is to just shift to second and let the engine slow the rpms. I somewhat daily drive my eclipse and love the flywheel and would suggest you get one even if it is a DD

I'm going to disagree here. Depending on the way you drive, determines if it's good or bad. If you push the clutch in alot, alot of times the car dies out. If you have a good idle motor, it will usually catch it. It's not just when the car is at a high rpm, sometimes I can push the clutch in at 2500-3000 rpm and the car dies out. Not to fun when your trying to go around a corner.

But honestly, I went from stock to the 8lb and it just feels to light. Sure it revs quicker but my car definitely wasn't any faster from it. If your doing it for that reason, save your money.

i have never had my car die out ever with the fidanza on there. If i was driving at 4k and pushed the clutch in, the rpms would drop to about 1000-1200 and sit around there until i released the clutch again. If your car is dying like that, then there is some other issues with your vehicle. like i said, between all the people i know that have a fidanza flywheel, we have never had any problems with the car dying, and have loved the increase feel of the fidanza flywheel.

It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the car. The whole point of it is that it revs faster, due to less rotational mass. So if it revs faster, what makes you think it won't drop faster? I know of about 3 guys who have the same problem I do, granted they changed there driving habits to accomodate for the flywheel. Like I said, it's not for everyone. I noticed little to no difference from swapping them out so to me, I feel as if that isn't a very good mod. Other people may say that they like them.

I can honestly say, I don't know anyone personally that has said they were a good bang for the buck. Money could be better spent somewhere else. :thumb:

It all depends on how much power you are putting to the ground. All my friends that use the fidanza have FWD DSM's and we can greatly tell the difference. It all depends on how much power you are putting to the ground. Do you think someone putting 6-700 to the ground is using a stock flwheel??? most likely not.. it all depends on the application and what your plans for the car are.

One thing no one else mentioned was that it is pre stepped so you don't have to take your flywheel to a machine shop. Just speeds up the installation process because we all know that when a machine shop says a week they really mean three.--Jon

the fidanza flywheel is a nice upgrade to your drivetrain, revs faster and sounds better..anyone tried other flywheels ?

friend with an 98 gsx has an ACT lightened flywheel.. if i remember correctly ACT doesnt have the removable disks on the flywheel and costs a boat load more plus they are a little heavier than the fidanza

do any of you own the fidanza, I do and I will tell you yeah it's light weight, and yeah it revs faster...but

forget about cruising and letting off the pedal cause it will go "bzzzooooggggg go go gog zoooggggg" because its circulating mass slows down so much faster as well... your car will slow down faster but it's almost uncomfortable, and the noise is just irritating...I'm getting an exhaust to help cover up the noise it makes when you downshift or left off the pedal.

I have a tsi awd though, maybe a front wheel drive car would be more beneficial..

Yup, my Fidanza does it as well. It sounds like shit and as far as I can tell, there is no remedy to it.

werd...I got a 2600lb act clutch to go with it...haha damn talk about some grabbing and some downshifting bogg LOL..

bzooggg ggoo gooo goo o zooooogggg...LOL
