Hey guys I recently bought this car that had a bad wiring harness it’s a 1996 and it came with a 1998 harness. Before realizing the pinout on the ECU plugs were different I installed it. Realizing this I tried to swap the pins to the correct ones, I swapped pins (11 to 2 (coil 1) 8 to 4 (generator coil) 22 to 8 (CEL light) 25 to 24 (knock sensor) 39 to 56 (battery light) removed pin 70 and currently that’s all I’ve swapped over.

It fixed my initial problem of no spark no fuel, but now I just have no spark and my ASD relay doesn’t click on. For more into it has a brand new engine, transmission most of the sensors are new including crank and cam sensors tried on two different computers and does same thing.

Currently I’m at a lost and would like to know if there is anything I can do to fix this if you have any question please ask and I’ll answer to the best of my ability

The connectors for a 98 ecu are very different from a 96 ecu. You couldn't even plug them into each other. Not only are those connectors different but so are a few on the engine side.

If using a 98 harness, I would also use a 98 ecu and engine sensors. If using a 96 harness, use 96 ecu and sensors. No point in trying to mangle a harness and having trouble with diagnoses later down the road. It's not just a difference of connectors but there are extra wires and colors not matching. If you have trouble finding the harness you need, just start from scratch using the damaged on as a template.

Yea that’s seems like my best bet when I bought the car the 98 harness came with it and I was told it was the same but they lied LOL so I guess I’ll take the old one that was kind mangled and just go through it and re solder all the wires properly and use that one instead and see what it does
