Hey guys,

I've been browsing the forums for months now and recently bought a 90 GST with a rebuilt engine (valves, rods, Arp studs, head, cams).

I searched the forums and didn't find any answers, I just got back from a mechanic here in Atlanta. He told me he's getting a "Ignition coil circuit " code along with an engine coolant code (don't remember the exact code)

I just recently bought 2 coil packs for 1g from a forum member here however when i received it I learned it wasn't a 1990 as the connect is triangular not square so I used the old square connector from my current one in the newer one. It ran great for a 2-3 days until today when I had to start engine 7 times to keep her on.

When I got home from mechanic the car stalled and wouldn't start the starter turns, however grinding, but I feel as though I'm not getting anything from the coil packs.

My 1st coil pack was said to be new then died after about a week now this one appears to be dying. I'm guessing its the igniter or maybe the connector from the car itself (dont know what its called )

The engine has about a gallon of water in it (likely less) the temp gauge is normal.

Also the igniter connector on the engine side appears to be a bit burned not sure if that's normal...
 
Nvm the connector doesn't look burnt that was just some oil...

Also now that I think of it when I bought the car the previous owner told me that the car wouldn't start up without pressing the button on a white rectangular like switch.

The car would never start without that switch, I took the car to a mechanic here on Sylvan Rd to get started on restoring her but the buffoon somehow broke the f#@$in button however the car somehow turned on and drove until the coil pack stopped firing & starter died a day or 2 later

I don't know what that switch is or does but it's connected to a small white female connector with 2 small thin prongs there is a black & green wire & a black wire ran to the connector. This is all near the clutch pedal & dash...

Any help would be greatly appreciated
 
Ok here's a lil update, luckily I live 2 houses from an auto shop. The mechanic walked to my house an found the problem.

The black rectangular male connector that connects to the engine fell loose it doesn't have the lock on it which causes it to wiggle itself loose. Its located directly under the wire that connects to the coil pack in fact they are on the same wire line thay splits into a Y.

I now need to find a way to keep it locked so it doesn't come loose under spirited driving.
 
You might want to browse these threads and start looking for a copy of the 1990 factory service manual on ebay. 90's are unique and not covered by the DSM ManualCD you'll find online or for sale.

It sounds like your talking about the power transistor connector.

The "switch" by the pedals your referring to is the clutch safety switch,this will not allow the car to start without it pushed in.What you can do and what most people do is simply unplug it.That will eliminate a future problem and will allow you to start the car without pushing in the clutch.Also a haynes manual will show you how to test the power transistor if your suspecting a problem there.A bad one will kind of decieve you into thinking its a coil problem when its in fact the transistor.
