Just got my first Dsm this year and Ive encountered a problem. The story is that the motor was just rebuilt and when I turn the motor on the idle surges badly. I have no idea what it could be. My Eclipse is pretty much stock except for having a 16g turbo and a mild cam. The cam is the Comp Cam 101-102-8E. It isnt a very radical Cam. Is this problem occurring because I dont have a Tune except for the factory one? Or is this problem something small like a vaccum leak or Tps adjustment? Any advice would be appreciated! Heres a video to my problem.

Boost leak test. Could be a vaccum leak, could be a boost leak. Could be that the timing is off. Could be a mis adjusted TPS/BISS screw. I would think even on the factory tune, the idle shouldn't be that bad with those cams however I could be wrong. You probably should have thought of a tuning solution before going aftermarket anything.

That sounds pretty bad. In my experience that crazy jump at idle is caused by a faulty IAC/ISC very easy to test. Pull it out and check the coils. Then plug it in and rest it on top of the IM so you can see the pintle move in and out in the key on position.
The difficulty starting may be a separate issue. I'd check the cam angle sensor, especially if it's the stock 2ga. Replace with a 1g.

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. This weekend ill do some tests and check some things and get back with some results!

Any luck figuring out what is wrong? That hard start sounds to me like either the cam timing is incorrect, or a dead cam angle sensor. Can you borrow a known-good cam sensor for an hour? I would definitely double-check cam timing since the cams have been replaced. The Comp cams you have in there should start and idle much better than that, even on a stock ECU.

Hey Yeah I forgot I even made this thread. But anyways, I adjusted my BLISS screw because i noticed that it was almost screwed all the way out. I turned it all the way in and then out 2 turns. I dont know how accurate this is because i dont have link. I read on the forums that this is them most accurate measurement without link. I also fixed a boost leak. I got the idle down to 900 and my vacuum was sitting at -14. When I rev it, it seems to stumble and pop then search for idle again. I know something isnt correct still. I think its my tps. Not sure yet. Im still learning these cars as its my first one. I need to check my cam sensor and and timing.

Cool, glad you're making headway. Too bad OBD-II doesn't report ISC valve position on these cars :(

Right! I just need to get all these kinks out and what not before I go in for a tune. I will update again this sunday because I only have weekends to work on it unfortunately.
