hello, I've noticed that my car is nowhere near in power compared to my friend's 3g Eclipse, and I'm wondering what could be causing that power loss because instantly you feel the HP difference. my friend's Eclipse is an RS, so it's not like it is a v6 against my 420a, it should be only about a 6 hp difference. any ideas on why I'm losing power?

Your friend's car is a 2.4 which has a longer stroke so it has a lot more torque than your 2.0. I believe the 2.4 has 35 more ft lbs if I recall correctly, they are 165 ft lbs and I know the 420a is only 130 ft lbs

And there is also a 14 hp difference which is significant when you are only dealing with a 140 horsepower engine to start with. Thats a 10% increase

hmm, I don't know, it feels like a lot more than 14hp :confused:my friend when he drives it sometimes does unintentional "burnouts" (tire screeching sound)

I got the HP difference from here, didn't knew it was wrong.

I could definitely be wrong on the specs of the 2.4 3g engine. I have nothing against them but they just never piqued my interest, so I don't retain the specs in my memory very well.

The gear ratios may also be different and that will play role in how fast the car "feels"

Personal experience... when I was a kid my parents had 2 identical dodge shadows except one was a 2.2 and one was a 2.5. and there was a night and day difference in how well they got up to speed. The horsepower rating is only like 8 hp different between them and maybe 15 more ft lbs of torque but in low horsepower cars that is a significant difference.

Then again there could be something wrong with your car too. Do a compression check on it and that will tell you how mechanically healthy the engine is

that example that you gave may be what's happening with me LOL,

ill definitely check for compression, any other thing that I should check?
