I wouldn't recommend going cheap on the timing belt kit. Stick with OEM stuff. I wish I would have done that! My eBAY timing belt kit lasted 20,000 miles - then BAM! - the timing belt snapped! I had to replace my engine...

I bet if you took a poll, you wouldn't find 1 person that would recommend the eBAY kit over OEM.

That kit doesn't include a timing belt tensioner, something I would highly recommend changing when you do the timing belt.

Forget e-bay or aftermarket for critical timing parts. Find a place that offers a DSM discount for factory parts. A lot of people have had good luck with JNZ Tuning. I prefer to use Rockville Mitsubishi http://mitsupartsdirect.com/index.html DSM discount is 25% off. They also run a monthly special of 30% off tune-up parts (everything needed in a timing belt replacement is in the special). They also have a nice rewards program. I have not paid for shipping in awhile. There are several dealerships in the country that offer DSM discounts. Maybe you will get lucky and find one close to home. Unfortunately, the one close to me charges over list price!

I like eBay for many many things, but something as important as a timing belt kit should be left to OEM. Go to one of our vendors and see what kits and parts they have. It should be a good deal cheaper than what a dealership would charge.

All Mitsubishi parts - all belts, timing/balanceshaft/idler pulley, water pump, tensioner, 5 oil seals came to $ 391.83 at my local Mitsubishi Dealer with a "DSMTuners Club Member discount". The price for the same parts I was quoted before I told them I was a club member was $743.40.

Labor - Without front oil seals - $ 371.95, With front oil seals - add $75.

Gotta love "Marketing". 48% off sounds great, but not when they're jacking up Net Pricing well above MSRP.

The same parts are the same price at 25% off of MSRP.

You got a good deal on the parts, I'm not arguing that, however I hate when places play the numbers game to make it it seem like it's a better deal. Percentages are just abstract figures anyone can throw around. What's important is the total amount of money that's coming out of your pocket.

That's true. I was comparing non-club member to club member prices at my dealership. I could have bought it from Extremepsi or SBR but it would end up being more expensive.

I remember reading a thread on here about a timing belt snapping after only 10k miles of use. Well, turns out the guy bought the timing belt kit on Ebay. Really, its not something I would suggest going cheaply on. Just go through the Mitsu dealer and the good ol' OEM stuff. Either that or get an OEM timing belt kit from a reputable shop like ExtemePSI or Slow Boy Racing

Just so you know OEM is not always Mitsubishi. If you want Mitsubishi parts, you have to ask for Mitsubishi parts.

My list at 60K, some people say items 1-3 at 60k and the remainder at 120k, but hey I'm an anal SOB (and as stated, OEM is not always Mitsubishi):

Timing belt
Balance belt (if you still have it)
Tensioner
Water pump
Tensioner pulleys - 2 (TB and BB, if you still have it)
Idler pulley
Crank seal
Oil pump seal
Balance shaft seal
Cam seals - 2

Also inspect the arm that the tensioner pushes against, over time it cam wear a dimple in it (much like the clutch fork/pivot ball scenario) and might need replacement.

What ^^^ said. I have the same list, I am at 60,700 miles and the rubber part on my harmonic balancer is worn. I'm getting that replaced too. I got it for $100 no charge for labor since they had to take it out anyways.

Thats my exact 60k service as well.
Plus I usually do an oil change and get a coolant system power flush done.

I have to agree, no ebay stuff. The best place would be the dealer. I work at oreilly auto parts and get everything at cost, so instead of going with a mitsu belt I went with a Gates. I hope its as good as oem...

I'm running an ebay timing belt kit, with the pulleys, and water pump.

Been over 10k miles a few 600 mile trips, so far so good. have mhi big16g and all supporting mods, go WOT at least once a day. I'll let you know how it is in another 10k miles.

the ones from ebay, are the ones local shops get. the shop that installed mine who took a look at it confirmed it. its from a big parts distributer, something PAC, i forget.

It doesn't hurt to ask but I wouldn't hold your breath. Some have been known to give a discount to members of local clubs, etc and others won't know what you're talking about.

FWIW, Parts Dinosaur offers a high quality kit at a very good price. The auto tensioner he sells is actually oem.

I bought the waterpump kit, which came with b/s belt and timing belt along with idler and the belts looked pretty durable, well they were new . I stuck with the HKS belt.

OEM mitsu belts are made by GATES. At least the last one I bought was a GATES.

i would recommend not getting an ebay timing belt due to the fact that it is an important part and if it breaks it can cause some serious damage. get and OEM or greddy

Did you not read my reply above? I RUN THIS EBAY TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP KIT! It came with all the pulleys and gaskets, whatever it says on the auction, it came complete. I had a shop install it, about 10,000 miles ago. I have an mhi big16g with all the supporting mods, dsmlink, etc. I go WOT several times a day, I've taken my car across state. It has been fine. If it breaks i'll let you guys know but it has been solid.

Again if you read my post, the shop who installed it after seeing the packaging of the timing belt and water pump, seem to know it was from a major distributor brand that all the other local shops get OE replacements. so from someone with actual experience, so far so good.
