eBay Intercoolers

As with any universal kit you'll have to worry about fabricating mounting brackets and all the IC pipes to go to and from the stock locations to get this to work. if you are handy with metal work and tube bending then it may be a good deal. Friend of mine tried to do the same thing when he bought a universal for $400 then realized by the time he bought allthe pipes and clamps and other crap it was going to take him a month to get it right and working so he opted to go for a kit. Kits might cost more but for newbies they certainly ease the install process.

I guess that would work, but my friend and I both got our FMIC's off ebay awhile back. My friend runs it on his evo and mine is going on the talon once I return home. Ours cost 300 plus shipping, but have a core size of 24x10x3 and are a bar and plate design. Tube and fin will work fine, but bar and plate designs have a superior design for cooling. It's good to have something in the "tubes" to turbulate the air so that all of it gets contact with the side walls so all the molecules get to transfer heat. In just a solid tube with no turbulators, just the air on the very edges gets to transfer heat. OK I hope that all made sense because I've had a few Coronas. I'd say keep an eye open for a better one on ebay, but that's because I guess I set higher goals, and your's might not be like mine. Best of luck though man!!!

thanks man.. well.. fabricating is no problem.. i got a buddy of mine here in san diego that does custom fabricating... I just want to know if these intercoolers are any good.. its like a no name brand.. nothing to back its own quality up.. but if i can find better deals on a better one, i'll be sure to look that up...

I have an evo 3 big 16g turbo. My question is would this be overkill?
Inagine trying to blow up a baloon with a coffee stirring sraw.

Streetimports sells a nice tube and fin (lighter than bar and plate)
Bar and plates are more expensive, but more efficient, they are way heavier too.

... i thought bar and plates were less efficient, but flowed more, where as a tube and fin had a little mroe pressure drop, but cooled better?

I think you've got it backwards...bar and plate are more efficient at cooling, but flow a bit less that tube and fin which aren't as efficient at cooling.

That is a pretty good sized core, nice and thick too :thumb: A good FMIC could never be bad for an EVO16g...that one might be a little big, but if you ever plan on upgrading your turbo later you'll be set.

Nope, i was right... bar and plate are less efficient in cooling, but have lower pressure drops (typically) and flow much better... readd here for example http://www.rmdsm.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2388

tube and fins cool better because there is much much more surface area that air touches metal that is being cooled by out side air...

I just saw this on ebay and I was wondering if anyone has purchased this kit yet? The price is really low so it makes me wonder what the quality is like. If I did run this intercooler it would either be on a T04b or 14b so does it look like this would be enough intercooler?

Not sure which turbo I want to use, Im leaning twards the 14b because the quick spool. The T04b spools way to late on an automatic so its not very fun to drive with(its externally gated so its not because of a misadjusted internal gate)

Probably a bad idea. If it looks too good to be true it probably is!!!! I have one of Jr's kits and it is awesome!! He sells on ebay, great guy, great product!

usually in this car game, you get what you pay for
The quality of that is probably not very good...and trust me I'm not suggesting you go out and get a Greddy 24Row NIB because thats alot of money but some of those ebay coolers you have to be careful with
It was a good idea that you posted on here, but look around for ebay coolers, I'm sure there are better ones out there, keep looking on ebay, and I think somtimes it may be better to purchase a core and get pipes made, esp because you can get short route piping made with your blow off flange...good luck

I'd find a good sized core on eBay that would fit your turbo, and make your own piping kit. Brand new cores go for $70-$200 shipped depending on size, and you can make your own piping in about an hour for like $50 by going to:

Thats what this kid ^^ did and I have seen his ebay core upclose and it looks just as good as my SBR core..I dont know about the piping though ROFL

I have a ebay core, its not made for a dsm but it will work. its bar and plate, from inlet to outlet its 32x12x3 with 3in inlets and outlets. it looks great, the welds are just about perfect, i haven't had a chance to use it yet but i am sure i wont be disappointed :thumb:
