Ebay hi flow cats

Anyone use any of the ebay hi flow cats they sell on there for like 15 bucks? If so how are they. If these are not good anyone know where i can find a cheap one? Preferrably direct fit if not a universal is fine. I went to local exhaust shop and the universals they had would not fit my car. They said they were too big. Chime in =]

The $15 items are most likely cat replicas, i.e. they are just a hollow tube made to look like a cat.

The cheapest real cat that I've seen on ebay is an SS core going for $65.

Actually they don't even look like cats. tehy're just test pipes. I seen salvage cats go for $15. They still work but it's not being sold to be used again. As long as the platinum is still inside, you can use it.

As mentioned, most ebay cats are not real cats. They are merely a resonator or a test pipe, just shaped "somewhat" like a resonator. You want the inside to look like a "honeycomb" as it contains the elements palladium, platinum and on newer units rhodium. The inside of the ebay cats will have no honeycomb, and will be straight through.

ebay does sell real high flow cats, you just have to know what you are looking for.

i know exactly what you are talking about in the ones advertised as cats but really are just straight through, they are usually SS and dirt cheap.

the real high flow cats can be found on ebay, have been significantly less compared to other places, are universal and have to be flanged.

I;m not looking to spend 150 for a cat that i intend to take off but incase i decide to leave it on i need a hi flow cat. And i don't wanna get screwed off by ebay. So i dunno where did you guys get your hi flows?

new i am to dsm, not new iam to ebay, if you get something from ebay that nobody knows about, they will f&$% you with thin metal, and bs welds, believe me i know, bit if some poor soul has already bought and procured an item and has positive feedback on it, go for it ESPICALLY if its cheaper, but its like rolling the dice with shotgun shells, even if you think it wont go off, it just might...

you get what you pay for in most cases but ive run a "high flow cat" from ebay for almost 2 years in ny and never had a problem with inspections or anything and it just is a peice of pipe with flanges on it not at all in any way shape or form a cat but for 15 bucks why not

Yea but the thing you might have might not be an actual cat, therefore failing emmision. Do you have emission testing where you live?

you gotta be careful buying cats from a vendor on ebay. Granted, there are some legit ones on there but folks, You get what you pay for, really really holds up here.

As stated above, you get what you pay for. What sense would it make if you can sell an old cat for more money than buying a new one? There is a reason real ones are expensive. Please look at my previous post #5 if you want a real high flow cat.

If you need to pass emissions then you will need a REAL cat. There are two types, 2 way and 3 way. As I discovered first hand the devil is in the details. I bought a "real" 3" cat from a vendor off of Ebay but for some reason my NoX was too high come sticker time.
I triple checked EGR, put in cooler plugs, tried lower octane gas but could not get it to come within passing.
After doing more research I discovered that the converter that I bought was a 2 way converter so it would not help in reducing NoX,,,DOUGH !!

So I ordered a Magnaflow 3 way converter and low and behold everything passed.
If you put the two side by side to compare them ,"and I did" you cannot tell which one is a 2 way vs 3 way. So if you buy used and have no way to verify if it's a 3 way then walk away. If you need one just for visual inspection come sticker time then disregard my post.

i dont have emissions testing here in FL, but i got one from ebay, i think for $35,new. and it bolted perfect 2 my downpipe and 3" tsudo exhaust i had bought at the same time. its been 2 mo. still no problems with it.

sounds like the one people were mentioning that were not actually cats, but a stright through pipe/resonator advertised as a cat.

This is about the cheapest cat you can get, and its actually a cat made by a good company: eBay Motors: 6007 CATCO Catalytic Cat Converter 3" (item 140275111441 end time Oct-21-08 05:46:13 PDT)

They have all different sizes and can be welded directly in or installed with exhaust clamps for temporary measures.

The $15 specials you see on eBay have "for offroad use only" listed somewhere in the description, most are basically a resonator, some are just a straight pipe. They aren't going to do a bit of good for you unless you are buying a test pipe to replace a cat.

Direct fit cats are typically around $100-$150 depending on the vehicle, universals are less than half of that. If you can't find a local welder willing to do the job for cheap then worst case take it to tuffy or midas or your local muffler shop and have them weld it in.

ok well if u dont have emissions then i wouldnt worry bout a cat till u have to have 1...i live in TN and don have emissions were i live so i have turbo bak staight throught 3" exaust and i love it....besides if i need a cat al i have to do is buy 1 and git it put on for free
