I am looking at replacing my entire exhaust system here in the very near future. I have not passed a VET (Vehicle Emissions Test) in Kentucky in three years. I guess what I am wondering is.....does a high-flow cat perform as well as a stock replacement coverter at cleaning exhaust? I will again have to turn her over to the state for testing in a few months

No...I dont think the converter was the MAIN problem. Replacing the 02 sensor when it gets here in the mail....and I think THAT will cure most. But I dont wanna bring it back to code just to slap on a sub-performance converter and drag it back out of regs again. I think a new converter will help....it has 96k miles on it now.

Are these as effective as stock replacements or just simply a legality item that is strictly performance oriented and only used as a "See...I have one installed" type thing?

They're basically a straight through design. If you have to pass an emissions test, this isn't what you want to get. You'll have to buy an OEM catalytic, sorry.

Thank christ i've never had to have my vehicles inspected here in Ohio.

Dont cross the river south

I am JUSTTTT on the south side of the river (inside the I-275 circle) and I get jammed. I even pay a $8 fee for living in my county that was put into law like 10 years ago. You were paying that fee for a sticker that went on your plate stating your county (dont know why). Now....you just pay the fee and get no sticker.

I will go with a stocker then. Thanks for the input mang.

I had passed in PA with my 3 inch cat if that helps you out :) I figure that a few hp loss with the cat I can live with I have a few buddies who got the $3000 penalty and a toe for not having cats on there cars

You can definitely pass emissions with a high-flow catalytic converter, as long as it's actually a cat and not a resonator that is advertised as a catalytic converter like they have on ebay. Go with a Magnaflow or a Catco cat.

Sweet. I am really stumped why I keep failing. I have NEVER had a CEL light on my car (except when my son took off my gas cap) so I have no codes I can check. But...I am just gonna go all out and do what I can. This state says I have to spend $300 at a certified garage to try and bring my car within code. And repeat this every year.

Who knows.....maybe the 02 sensor will solve my problems.

Wait wait! I have a 3 inche exhaust system turboback with a 3 inch highflow cat and passed emissions with flying colors. You will still pass emissions if your engine is still running good and not blowing smoke all over the place.

I have a 3" turbo back, 3" highflow cat from Catco, Magnaflow muffler, and passed emissions on the quicks. Like a minute and I was done. Well, I also put in a mitsu. o2 had engine rebuilt (stock internals). I was also running base boost. I did wires(msd) and plugs(Ngk). Well my point is that you will pass if your car is running up to par. I live in IL. and here the emmission tests are stringent. Well I also have TSI awd so no dyno run on mine, I think that also helps.
