ebay hi flow cats

my issue is i'm gonna be getting a 2.5" exhaust on my car. the muffler shop HAS to install a cat. will one of these suffice for a cat? or do i have to buy the one that the shop has to offer?

this will bolt-in place of a cat but you WILL NOT pass emissions with it...it just just a straight pipe...if you tell the muffler shop to put on a straight pipe they wont do it wont put they might put this on if you tell them its a high flow cat. performance wise this will make a huge difference (if your car is turbo)

i live in northern minnesota and there are no emmisions tests for about 200 miles. my car is a 1.8 turbo cordia . i don't want to pay out the teeth for a hi flow cat and muffler, and i don't have a welder so i'm somewhat stuck.

are these mufflers a scam?

if i get that cat and this muffler @ 2.5" do you think it would be too loud?

it would work but it's gonna sound horrible. That's what i like to call a fartcan. It's pretty much a empty canister. I'd really recommend a maganflow muffler. I don't really know what it would sound like on your cordia but I have one on my car and it gives it a real low growl, not a tinny "blap" sound.

Look around more, you can find an actual high flow cat for under 100 bucks.

I got the 88 cent muffler off ebay... the welds on it broke less than a month and the muffler was a 2.5 straight through n1 ripoff... its funny u get what you pay for

summit racing and jegs both sell high flow cats for around 65 or so.

Check this:www.summitracing.com They have Catco Hi-flow racing cats for $60. I have one and it really does clean up how bad the DSM exhaust stinks.

It doesnt look like a hand cannon/grapefruit launcher nor does it sound like one. Its one of the best sounding mufflers I have ever heard. $100 from summit. Do yourself a favor, save your money and dont buy the cheap stuff. If you do buy cheap, you will just replace it later.

Mncordia u should know that Ventura passed the no emissions law so u don't have to worry about a cat.

I put a test pipe on my RS with a N1 catback with header and it sounds so loud..like a riced out honda..but a good deep sound to it though since its an N1 2.5"..

not to hijack but this is on the same track as the question i've been wanting answered. When you guys mention the Magnaflow muffler sounds great you mean the Magnaflow muffler thats all shinny flowthrough design(fart can) and looks like a damn fruit cannon, or the Magnaflow muffler with just a crome tip and shaped somewhat like our stock muffler and liiks similar to the old tried and true mufflers we have been butting on out V8's for years? I ask this cause i have seen both kinds of mufflers and they both are Magnaflow brands but i can't get a nice deep tone out of the one shapped like a large TallBoy can, can I

ebay does have cats, but i wouldnt get that one

I would just get a catco on ebay, they are made by magnaflow, are about $30 and are real cats that are build well

It annoys me in a bad way that they can advertise these as high flow cats when they are nothing like a cat.

emmissions are of not much concern to me; i'd prefer not to have a cat, but the shop must put one on there. i think i'm gonna cheap out on the hi-flow and get a decent magnaflow muff.

You could have them weld new flanges on your stock cat and have them make you a straight pipe for the "track" Then when you get home you could just swap them out.
It would also give you an option if you happened to get a fix it ticket or moved somewhwere that did emissions. Just put the stock cat back in and your good to go.

I've heard that people gut the cat. How's that compare to a straight pipe?

you can gut them out, but i think that's bad because you then have an extra place for gasses to hang out in. if it's strait-pipe, then it ain't gonna be hangin around it's all getting pushed out. plus you have to get ALL of the junk out of the cat or it will be worse.
that's just what i think. i have never really messed with them (too hard to get to). but i do know i don't want one on there. i like the idea of the shop welding flanges on there and then taking it out later.
