Is there a general consensus as to which manufacturer makes the best high-flow cat. for the DSM in terms of efficiency and fit/finish?

Catco converters work well as do a few offerings from Random Technology. Here's a link to an online parts dealer that sells Catco units. I'm sure you can shop around online for the best prices:

Most muffler shops, even the non-chain ones, will not make you a test pipe since they're subject to heavy fines if caught doing so.

i know 3 lentz, 2 muffler mans, and 4 non-chain shops that will do anything as long as they make a buck or two...

the only thing that they do is make you sign a piece of paper saying that the vehicle isn't for road use, and if you are caught using it on the road they aren't responcible for it....

as for cats, whenever i've had to replace one on any vehicle i've used catco simply because i've never had any problems with their lifespan. plus they don't really change the sound of the exhaust much, or muffle it, which most likly means that it isn't messing with the flow too much.

just 2 months ago i got my 2.5" true duals done on my 86' caprice... no cats just flowmaster 40 series. just got the car there with full length headers and they did the rest. no questions asked at all.... got it done at lentz too, for $200

Heck man, if you really want something beefy, then just get a 3 in. exhaust and a 3 in. downpipe and go to Jegs.com and get ya a 3 in. high flow cat. Use what the big boys use Then you'll still be legal and 3 in. all the way. Now you'll have to do some custom fitting for this of course, but it'll be worth it.
