hey i was wondering if anybody has any experience with the generic greddy "type" blow off valves
i just recently purchased this type because it looks mechanically the same as the normal type-s because it has 2 nipples
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GRED...ewItemQQcategoryZ33703QQitemZ8038606788QQrdZ1
but i have seen some other ones that look more cosmeticallly similar and are a little cheaper. but only has 1 nipple like the "type rs"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GRED...ewItemQQcategoryZ33703QQitemZ8038606690QQrdZ1

but doesn anybody know how many psi the normal greddy type s is good to? i heard that they hold more boost if you apply sealant to the threads but i havent seen any pictures of it and dont know what kind of sealant they are talking about and where they put it (between the lid and the bolt?)

should i attach the bottom nipple to a boost source (i am running 20 psi)

anyways ill test out the bov in a bout a week when i install my fmic.

I have heard some horror stories about these things, mostly concerning how much pressure they hold and the actual sound of the bov. But hey if it works out for you I might consider it. Maybe when you get it you can record it for us? Good luck-

You might as well, better to be safe than sorry I guess.

Edit- This was said in another thread, Im sure if you search you will find some feedback.

"For everyone considering buying the fake Greddy BOV: In a recent article in a magazine dealing with the influx of fake/pirated aftermarket parts, a designer from Greddy commented on the fake Type S BOV's that have popped up on eBay. He said that they tested and dissected the fake one and found that the diaphragm that the fakes use is not oil-resistant and could fail or leak. We all know how much extra stuff is dumped into our intake tracts due to emissions. "

I see your from Olympia, I go there like twice a year for family and I love it there. I never see any dsm's around there though.

thanks for that link. i read the whole thing.
yah if the membrane breaks then ill just buy a replacement greddy one and that should fix it.

and as far as olympia yah their arent a lot of dsm's in olympia. only seen 3 ever. noone really cares about cars in olympia (i go to school at Evergreen st college) i grew up in tacoma and there are alot more cool cars there. plus i work there (35 mins away). but olympia is pretty cool its nice and laid back. cops are dicks tho (compared to tacoma). if u got extra time next time you come up u should pm me and we can check out each others cars.

I had an ebay type s....I couldn't get it to open up for the life of me, i tried everything, hooking up the lower nipple to an all boost source, single spring mod...
Nothing i did to this bov would let it open up. It would just cause compressor surge.
I threw it in the garbage the other day, i wouldn't recommend it.

i have one, i think most of the leak problems are from people who don't know how they work. as long as a boost line is attached to it, pressure will be equal on both sides.

my car isn't driving yet, but so far it sounds good and works good. i'll post back when i have some miles on it.

I know how a bov works, and believe me, it would not open, I did find that the diagram had a large crack in it though.

Either way, everyone who has had the ebay type s knockoff, did not have it for long before it failed.

i put an ebay replica of the type s on my awd talon back in the day...after about a month the diaphram stuck open and that's when i discovered compressor surge :notgood: they're no good imo

My car came with an eBay knock-off Greddy Type S,. The seal went out and gave me a nice boost leak. I took it off, ordered a REAL Greddy and have never had a problem since. I would have gone with just a stock 1g crushed, but I did not want to have to re-weld a new flange on my I/C pipes.

i read a post of someone who was complaining about theirs opening when the car was idling. not you specifically

I have one. I drove with it for a couple of days. It was ok I guess..for a stock car that is. It held boost fine and would sound like any BOV being recirculated. I threw that sucker out until I upgraded to the 1g BOV.

If I were you, I'd keep that genuine piece of Mitsubishi we call a 1g BOV. keekeets.
