ebay exhaust systems?

OK well regarding the warranty issue they finally offered me one solution they can do for me. The offered to send me a new muffler section since that was the part that was the rustiest, or at least the most visible. I did not try to ask about the whole thing since it seems like a big hassle to get it replaced still. They offered two options: I could A) Send mine back to them shipping at my expense and they would send a new one out, or B) Put down a $100 deposit and then they would give it back once I send back my old one, again shipping at my expense. Seems like after jacking my car up, packaging it, paying for shipping and then waiting or putting a deposit down first, the hassle might not really be worth it. But it is good that they actually offered me some sort of resolution. I would think if I wanted I could have the whole thing replaced me, but shipping would make it really not worth while. I am going to contact them and see if they would possibly give me some sort of a partial refund and have me just keep my exhaust how it is all rusty and all. I'll keep you posted.

got it installed today and it sounds great however just worried it has a deep growl on lower revs and i might get pull over by NYPD

The exhaust note will probably change in a month or so. Won't rumble as much.

LOL.. mine got louder.. but, it's a nice LOWWWW tone.. and sounds real good at partial throttle acceleration.. it's got that hollow, low tone....When it got louder, I thought it sucked at first, but I got used to it.. I wonder if my overall exhaust tone will change when I drop in come BC 272's... I know idle will definitely change...

Mine has less bass now, than when I first installed it. Still sounds good, still sets off car alarms. (mua ha)

I just placed the order for my a 95-99 FWD downpipe. It will be going on my uncle's car. I will make sure to take many pictures.

It is going with the ebay catback as well.

However, I will be purchasing a 3" high flow cat, having a muffler shop probably install and do everything.

This would consist of removing the stock catback exhaust from the stock cat (because those bolts are pain), installing the new downpipe, and flanging the universal 3" high flow cat and removing all the neck downs.

Anyone have a ballpark figure on how much that might cost.

I hear that muffler shops don't usually carry 3" 2 bolt flanges, I was thinking maybe getting it on EBAY, but its pretty scarce.

While browsing, looks like the us 2g AWD guys have some options now, they have 3" downpipes for us (of course necks down where it connects to catback exhaust) but looks like a nice design, really straight, SS, nice welds, etc.

Just got mine installed. Downpipe and Catback. It came quickly and was very well packaged. Of course the hardest part was gettin the old exhaust off. Getting the exhaust in was pretty easy not much manhandling and the hangers were aligned up very well. ONe tricky part was gettin the muffler section in, the part that bends over the rear bar had to be muscled into place but wasnt much of a chore at all. Hardest part for me was the O2 sensor. I couldnt get it out under the car, so i just cut it and when the old exhaust was sittin on the ground i was able to heat it up with a propane torch and it just came out. All I did was solder the correct wires back in and my sensor works fine. As far as the sound its pretty good, i can tell i need to tighten down some of the bolts a bit more, im thinkin to o2 wasnt screwed in all the way or soemthing i can hear a slight exhaust leak under acceleration. Overall im very pleased with the product and its performance for the price. Next up for me will be an ebay 2GB Front end+headlights off ebay. Any questions feel free to shoot em.

Looks like Greddy style.

Also did you guys get that reducer that is pictured? That's nice, if you don't put that on, it looks like there are no neck down!

Yea but if you dont use that reducer you will need a few inch extension welded on to take its place. So if you have an aftermarket downpipe, it will not be bolt on. Same with the japanimportshop one that i bought. Without the reducer the exhaust is too far towards the front of the car and woudnt line up.

Did you bring it to an exhaust shop to have them fit the cat on there, and then cut the neck down starting on the catback? Also how bout the o2 bung, didn't cutting the straight piece of the downpipe also remove this.. or did the cat come with an o2 bung already on it. If you did have a shop do it how much did they charge?

I'm going to help my uncle out on his setup and do something similar.

We're in cali so we need to have a cat in place, we're going with the n1 knockoff catback, and an ebay 3" downpipe, and a 3" carsound cat from ebay.

I don't want to just weld the cat in place, but flange it so it can be switched with a test pipe if need be. Then cut the neck down when the catback starts, and have an o2 bung installed if not present for the sensor.

As I said I do not believe that there is much of a penalty when you run a high flow cat. Of course if you are planning on massive horsepower, it maybe a restriction.

I laid the downpipe out and meassured the space that I had between the hangers and where it necked down. Then I bought a magnaflow the correct length and 3 inch pipe. I built a wood jig for the downpipe before cutting it so I knew the overall length and orientation of the flange. Then I cut it and mounted in to the jig and took it to get welded.

I recomend that you buy the stuff you want and take it to a muffler shop and have them fit it and weld it. It will probably come out better and not cost you much. This even goes if you want to flange it for removal.

Well, we got the ebay 3" downpipe, and bought the ebay 3" apex'i n1 style catback from a friend used.

This is for a 2g GS-T and it bolted up perfectly. All this time I thought the part that necks down was as extreme as the brand name exhaust such as the real APEXi N1. But its not too bad at all, as seen in this pic:

Again the catback is used thus how grimey it looks.

No complaints at all, performance is as expected and sounds very good.

For those who are interested in the MEGAN RACING downpipe and catback. THEY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME, except the MEGAN RACING is significantly more expensive, has a DENT on the catback, and you probably get customer support, also the megan racing catback starts out at 3" and not 2.75" like the ebay ones, but I believe it doesnt matter since both ebay and megan racing downpipe outlets shrink down to 2.75" so same difference, but the megan racing catback would be perfect if you got--say an RRE downpipe which doesn't neck down at the downpipe outlet, or similar downpipes.

Here is a review:

If we paid for the catback new, total price for downpipe and catback would roughly be around ~$300 Shipped.

I noticed where your dp meets the catback the gasket isnt the exact size, just like mine. Can you notice an exhaust leak at that point at all? At idle i can slightly hear something, but it's real noticeble if i accelerate real fast. I'll end up making my own gasket later on to fix it since i cant stand the slight difference. However after 3k it sounds like heaven, especially deceleratting i love the sound. Cruising around just at 3k sounds perfect to me. Also to note at 55 on the high way, with my radio at level 5/60 on the volume, my passeneger couldnt even hear the note. Cheers

The downpipe is definitely not meant to bolt on to the stock catback, we had it like that before we got a hold of the ebay catback.

Huge leak wit the stock catback. With the ebay 3" catback, there was no more leak, at least at idle with my hand feeling around the flanges.

Here are some pics of the downpipe for 2G GST..

I had my Xtune catback installed by a shop and they charged $120 after tax:( . But they said the hangers didn't match up so they had to do some cutting and welding.

I bought a Tsudo Fireball 3" catback four years ago and have over 20K miles on it. It sounds better now than when it was new. I'm very happy with my Tsudo exhaust.

It was necked down to fit the stock cat and the neck down was not removable like the one in the link above. RRE makes a 3" downpipe that is longer than stock and mates perfectly to a catback with the removable neck down. I had to cut off the neck down and weld on a 3" flange so the RRE downpipe would fit. Would have been nice if Tsudo made the neck down removable back when I bought mine.

I don't like the restriction I see where these eBay downpipes and catbacks all neck down where they meet. Exhaust gas flows only as fast as it can get through the smallest section of the exhaust. If there's a 2.5" restriction in a 3" exhaust system you effectively have a 2.5" exhaust system.

Yea thats what I thought too. This entire time I thought these ebay downpipes and catbacks neck down to stock piping diameter (like real apexi), but they do not. Nor do they neck down to you rstated 2.5". They do neck down, but barely, of course its still a neck down, but I don't think its too bad at all, especially for the price, I really have no room to complain.

The actual size these things neck down to is about 2.7"-2.75"

Image too big, click link to see pic.

Ebay auctions actually even state that size. Gotta give it to them for being truthful. 2.5" inlet before flex, 3" after flex, 2.75" outlet.

So I wonder how much a .25" neck down is going to hurt performance.... probably 20whp and 5sec in the 1320. :p JK

Here is pics of how tip looks:

This thread sold me. Memorial Day Weekend I get a heads up from a friend helping me look for exhausts, saying check these out. I tell him i am looking at either an Apexi or a Magnaflow muffler, he says eff that, look at these.

For about 400 dollars less than the name brands, I decided even if it goes bad, i could buy two more and still be satisfied with my purchase. I will be looking to get a Ebay downpipe now, and a high flow cat i would rather purchase from a name brand (no offense, but for california smog natzis, i want to be OBDII legal and stuff).

I'll be sure to post up pictures, just to reassure anyone with doubts. Hope it sounds as good as I been hearing the rest of these as. I'll just tell all my friends it is an Apexi, let me see them try and tell me it isn't :p

Ordered the exhaust on monday (memorial day) was shipped tuesday evening at 6, and arrived at my door wednesday morning. While i would have like to just drove and picked up the exhaust myself, whatever..

The exhaust sounds really deep, and as mentioned, at 3k rpms it sounds beast, and under 2.5k or so, you can hardly hear it, which for me, I like the idea perfectly, see a cop, go into nuetral or shift up if i am in town.

Here are the pics, was a crazy install took me 11 hours, but i am really new to cars, only had ramps that got the car maybe 6 inches off the ground, and felt like it was 100+ degrees outside. However it did come with extra bolts, new gaskets, a hole for the rear o2, everything I needed. The end result was great, and I WOULD recommend this to other people.

have a great day everyone!

that looks beautiful, love the angle and on the red color of the car, i would hope it looks the same for me. im sold on this exhaust, and will purchase it within the next couple days, thanks guys.

I have had mine sitting in my room for over a month, cant wait to get it on.. But have to save money for a new down pipe (stock system has exhaust welded at the flanges for some reason :()

Just wanted to add something about the japanimport shop exhaust. The first flange on the exhaust is rotated a little bit too far to the right so it wouldn't bolt up to a downpipe. This has made it a major pita for me to get a downpipe on.
