ebay exhaust systems?

Wow, yea i always heard about the salted roads messing it up. I didn't know it was that severe. My friend with his ebay downpipe and catback, all "stainless seel" or so the ad says, has held up fine here in California. It has been through several rainy days as well and is a daily driver.

So it should be noted, if you drive in a state with salted roads, be aware. At least now we know.

I don't think many exhaust systems are true ss straight through. I think most are ss plated. But not all plating is created equal...anyone ever seen those cheap "24k gold plated" pieces of jewelry you can find outside glass cases in dept stores? Things like that flake off or chip in no time. Obviously these exhausts have really cheap and thin ss plating that flakes off from the heat in no time, then where the bare metal is exposed they rust.

But even my megan ss dp's ss coating has begun turning gold and getting a texture. Eventually that is going to flake as well and that's supposed to be a decent company.

Edit: Forgot to mention, take a look at those pics and the rest of his undercarriage. It's obvious his car sees some harsh road conditions. Underneathe my car I don't have any corrosion at all.

Hey guys don't forget that just because its stainless steel that doesn't mean that it won't rust. take a look at the stock exhaust piping and what do you see? chances are if you live on salted and/or muddy roads, that stock piping with have a nice coating of rust on it too. as far as the tip goes that's another story... the stock tips have a chrome outter shell, obviously this one does not. hey at least it's a good reason to weld on an anti-ricer muffler say... magnaflow? borla?

Sounds like we've got a volunteer ROFL

Heh, well I'd like to, unfortunately I'd need a Cali legal, ODBII cat ($200 or so) and a downpipe to go with the catback purchase, as my stock exhaust is rusted all to hell and needs to be cut off.

I'm just not in a position to spend on that right now. But if I ever do I'll keep you up to date.

Not necessarily if the person lives near the beach in FL. I moved to central FL so I don't see any salty beach air. I think salt is accelerating the corrosion for him, that and the cheap thin ss plating.

Megan racing catback here i come, well not for a little while anyways.

My Japimportshop is ordered since sunday..im keeping my fingers crossed

I just ordered mine.. after shipping (same price as exhaust it self) it cam up to 340 canadian..
Not a bad price for a 3" Catback.. Ill probably throw on a downpipe next season though, im broke now :(
Oh, can some one tell me how the japanimport place shipped? I hope its not UPS or FedEx, they charge massive duty fees ;)

It was UPS or Fedex, forgot which.

So 96gstdsm, any response from japanimport? I looked at the ad again and it does say "Will Never Get Rust". And no offense, but your shit looks like it's 5 years old now! I'm looking closely at mine every day now, LOL...still no rust though.

There messing around with me now, Saying I need the part number off the box I got it in. Definitely threw that one away when I installed the exhaust. They then told me it might be on the exhaust somewhere, don't know where though. Anyone have any knowledge of where there is any numbers on the exhaust? ###### hard to see on mine, being all rusty and crap.
I guess I am going to have to shift up a notch with my persistance now. When they tell me guaranteed to never get rust I hope for that. Having my tip all rusty looks bad, and is just false advertisement as well. Still love the sound of it though. I will post a new short video clip soon of the exhaust note so more people can hear it.

I still have my box.. since mine is rusting too Ill send them an email with my part number and see what they say

I bought my first one three months ago for AWD TSI. They sent the GST catback I checked out the pipes and the welds, not bad at all. I sold it to a local DSMer and he swears it's as good as name brand product. I would consider welding the flanges.

I've had mine for two years now, and I love it. $300.00 bucks for polished 3" stainless TBE. Welds are nice thick flanges. I have no signs of rust. I'd recommend the chep e-bay exhausts way pay $500.00 to 600.00 on a greddy or apexi and thats just a catback.

Hey if they all have a regular part number you want to send me the part number also? Unless they all have an original number for each one. If more than one person has a part number and they are same then it should be good.

Is there anyone with cheap 3" 1G setups? I could care less about rusting, my current setup is giving off sparks!

Got mine from the japanimportshop guy. Main problem was i had a MR AWD 3" downpipe trying to bolt up to this exhaust. It came with an adapater/extension but it was for the stock size downpipe (goes from 3 to 2.25 or whatever) so i tried for 2 hours to get it to fit but it was around 3-5 inches short because it was made for that extension to be in there. I finally gave up and just took it to an exhaust shop the next day and they were able to weld an extension in for me and got it all to fit for $47, which i should have just done in the first place but live and learn i guess. Just something to be aware of if your going to be using this with a aftermarket downpipe its not going to be an easy bolt on.

Any one have just the cat-back exhaust w/o a DP. I don't have the cash for a DP right now so if anything it will be bought awhile from now, I just wanted to get some feedback on just putting the exhaust on at the cat.
