ebay exhaust systems?

Well just got my megan racing downpipe and after I got the old downpipe and cat off I started bolting the DP on and guess what? Its 3" too short(which I have read before) and the flanges are at different angles. Just frustrated, I wanted to hear it :cry: :cry: :cry:

Guess I am going to have to take a trip to the exhaust shop and see if I can get a section made. :(

My friend has a full ebay turboback. The downpipe is also stainless steal, but NOT MEGAN RACING. It's one of those generic ones. It necks down at the end to connect to stock catback, but the XTUNE N1 catback he has mated up to it PERFECTLY.

But thats on a GST. Might differ on the GSX.

I'm wondering if its just the megan downpipes that dont bolt right up to the ebay catbacks.

looks like the XTune catback angles up a little at the end.. The japanimport catback basically comes straight out. I was able to bend the hangers around a little bit to get it where I wanted it.

If thats a GST spyder why is it routed like the AWD?
 
yes, the exhaust is angled exactly like the apexi n1 style exhaust system.....and i have no idea why it goes under the axel, all i can say is i like it better ### it was easier to put on and it has less bends that way....instead of going over the axel, it went under making it easier for piping and less bends....

like i said i have had the apexi before as well and it went over the axel, which was ok, harder to put on but whatever.....i liked it...


and yes, all the cheap ebay downpipes are short....they do not match up to the stock catback, so you either need an adapter or just go to an exhaust shop and have the cut the flange and extend the pipe....thats what i did before....works fine....
 
So to sum things up..

The X tune goes under the Axle?

The japanimport goes over the Axle.?or under the axle as well??

both Xtune and Japanimportshop are great deals and everyone seems to be happy ,install requires little to no modification..ok im sold.
 
I thought all the EBAY FWD catbacks were under the axle, and the AWD ones were under. Even brand name ones are like that. My friends EBAY catback for his GS-T was under, my Greddy GSX is over.
 
Well guys, i thought i wouldnt have to post pics up like this, but only after having this catback for a short amount of time i looked under it today to make sure it was all good and noticed this.

It looks like it is starting to rust in a few different places and i have yet to check the other peices besides the axle back part.

Yea, its all chipping off. This is pretty dissapointing for me actually, means im going to have to do some exhaust shopping again in the future.
 
The japanimportshop one I got, the tip has now started to rust it looks like. I have not tried to clean it off or anything yet, but just from looking I can see rust spots on it. I jacked the car up and looked underneath and everything seems nice still under there. Looks all pretty shiny, and I just finished driving it around through the whole winter here in ny. A little dissappointed with the tip getting rusty though!
 
I will probably just pull it off and sand it down and put some grill paint over it before it gets any worse.

Thats not news I want to hear. I just put mine on a couple weeks ago. Anyways I guess for $218 shipped you can't complain. We always have the option of buying a universal muffler and have the old one cut off and new one welded on. Thats the route I will go if mine starts to rust as well.

Ok well I looked under again and the whole thing has rust spots all over it! I contacted japanimportshop and I am going to send them photos and I will find out how they are going to make it right to me! The underneath part is not that big of a deal(of course real stainless steel is much better) but the be tip looking all nasty and rusty is not so nice. I will keep you all updated on how it goes trying to get some satisfaction from the company that sold it to me.
They have been quit to reply, which is a good thing, but I'll have to wait and find out the end result. Hopefully I just got an unlucky exhaust and everyone else won't have the same problem as I am.
 
Somehow I doubt the $220 exhaust has a warranty.

Mine is still ok so far. In fact, under my car it's the Megan dp that appears to be having its "ss" turn gold and flake off. Apparently when they said ss, they meant plated. The N1 replica is still hella shiny.

They said money back guarantee to never get rust, so I am hoping that will stand!
 
Heh, yeah that'll be interesting to see. Watch them say it was only guaranteed to not rust until installation.

Hahah wouldn't doubt that. I have to send them some pictures to prove it has rusted they said and then I'll find out what happens next.
 
Yea, I would be surprised if they did anything for you. That's how some of these items are cheap, no warranty and customer service.

96gstdsm, do you have pics of what you are talking about, some people might be able to put up with it.

I will post some up tomorrow if I get the time. It doesn't look too bad yet, but if it keeps rusting wont be so nice. I will take one, try to clean it best I can and then take another. Who knows, maybe I'll just clean away the rust haha. Wishful thinking but oh well you never know.
