ebay exhaust systems?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Just wanted to add something about the japanimport shop exhaust. The first flange on the exhaust is rotated a little bit too far to the right so it wouldn't bolt up to a downpipe. This has made it a major pita for me to get a downpipe on.

What kind of downpipe have you tried putting on it? There are EBAY downpipes for 2g AWDs, it might mate up to it.

Ah thats right, the Japan Import GSX catback comes with a separate reducer.

It might be just easier to put on your downpipe, put on the catback without the reducer, bring it to an exhaust/muffler shop and have them make you that connecting piece.

Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, eliminates the necking down, and have it bolt up properly.

I had to do this anyway, the reducer was too small to even bolt up to my megan racing 3inch downpipe. Would be that way for everyone who has a true 3inch downpipe that doesnt neck down.

I've read the first 9 pages of this thread, and I can't find anything for those of us that need a cat. I'm definetally leaning towards the japanimportshop catback for my 98 gst. I have a evo III o2 housing to go with it, so I was looking at megan dp, but that eliminates the cat. Does anyone know what I can do to keep a cat? Or is this a situation where i will need a exhaust shop to do some work for me for sure? Thanks guys. :dsm:

If you have an EVO III o2 housing, the studs are placed differently then the stock o2 housing. This might cause some fitment/install issues. There were some recent threads regarding this very subject.

And as those very threads stated, the only company that comes to mind that makes downpipes specifcally designed to bolt on to evo o2 is from RRE

As for keeping the cat, you obviously have read my posts in this very thread about that situation. The only obvious situation is getting a cat, remove a section from the downpipe, and have the cat put in place.

EBAY does not make any "short" downpipes so you can have a cat in place, so the above is inevitable. Again RRE is the only company that comes to mind that can have one made and shipped out to you out of the box, to save you time and hassle (if thats important to you) so you can bolt it right away.

As always it comes down to numbers--and how lazy you are. If you find someone who will make your downpipe like the RRE ones above, for cheap.. meaning not go over the price of the RRE one, then you still have a good deal. However, after adding the price of the extra labor and what not, if it ends up being more expensive then the RRE downpipe, you might as well get that. Saves you time..

Or just get cat shields and have them welded aroudn the same area where a cat should be ;) hahah

I bought one of these

and had an exhaust shop fit it into my exhaust system by welding flanges onto it. That way I kept the 3" system all the way through.

Right and right again. I have the RRE downpipe and high flow cat solution on my car. Their downpipe/cat/testpipe is designed to bolt up to cat back exhausts that have the removable neck down like the Apexi and some eBay exhausts. This makes installation easy on those exhaust systems. I had to cut off the neck down on my Tsudo catback and weld on a 3" flange I also got from RRE. The Tsudo would've been about 3" too long with the neck down still on. That gave me a full 3" back from the downpipe flex joint.

The flex joint on the RRE downpipe cracked and started leaking after about a year even though I have filled motor mounts. :( I was surprised to find that the RRE flex joint was only 2.5" inside (same diameter as the first section of the downpipe). When I replaced it I welded a 3" diameter flex joint in it's place.

If you look at the link I posted about 2 steps above yours, you will see a good 3" high flow catalytic converter, in polished stainless steel.

dude, you are right man. I meant to check out the link, but then forgot about it. That one looks nice, but will are their any nicely priced flanged ones? If not, it's not a big deal. thanks man :dsm:

I would get this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars...003QQitemZ130119234080QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

3" magnaflow high flow cat. $59 shipped!

It actually looks more like your standard cat so when you go to smog they won't look at you weird. Just bring it to the shop that will flange it.

Gregory remember the ebay catback for the 2g starts at 2.75" so if you get the RRE downpipe and 3" test pipe or cat, it will have .25" decrease, but it shouldnt be too bad like a 2.5" start. If thats a big problem for you, have the exhaust shop do something about it while your getting the cat flanged/installed. The megan catbacks for the 2g FWDs start at 3", but significantly more money, other than that they seem to be identical to the no name ebay ones. So if .25" is worth $150+ to you, go with the Megan. The link to your ebay auction was pasted wrong so I don't know which one your going with.

I never found a good catalytic converter with the flanges already on them. I believe it is too difficult to have them match up to your exhaust system, if they already had the flanges welded on. It is better to buy the flanges separately, and orient them perfectly for your exhaust system, then weld them on.

Bought the fwd catback from japanimportshop, it was one of the cheaper buy it now prices, when I received it there was a small dent on the canister(no big deal to me as I'm impatient and and probably gonna get my greddy muffler welded on there instead), and it is the "xtune" version with screw hangers instead of the normal hangers. Butt dyno shows a lot more pull than with the stock catback, and I haven't even had the chance to retune yet. Quick question though, what do you guys think of removing the first muffler and replacing with a cat? As for the sound of the exhaust, its nice, can be pretty loud, although I'd like a crisper exhaust note. It sounds too "muffler" for me, maybe because it has the two mufflers and resonator? Would changing to a greddy muffler change the exhaust note enough?

I have a Greddy power extreme on my GSX, it too has 2 resonators. Lets just say my uncle's ebay is louder.

You might not be satisfied by doing the switch. So little to gain, for more work. If your going to hack up the entire thing, you should have just got a custom one made.

Ebay Catback from:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=320124022993&rd=1&rd=1

The good: the price, mandrel bent, 100% SS, polished, 2 mufflers and a resonator

The bad: hangers are in funny positions that don't match up perfect, rattles up against my axel. I need to put some heat treated padding or something in between.

I'm posting this just so when people want to search on this exhaust, they can now have something to look at. nissangtrpower is the seller. The alias is 95-99 MITS ECLIPSE GST 3.0 CATBACK EXHAUST JDM N1 96 97.

Hopefully this video will help someone decide to buy or not to buy this exhaust. It's a little louder than it sounds in the video. My brother doesn't know how to point a camera I guess.

I always thought the idea with the AWD exhaust was to not only open it up but keep it as straight as possible. I know there are systems that bend very little but are any of these ebay ones like that?

Well, yea, that's the idea. Mine is FWD, not AWD, so for me, this is about as straight as they come. I think it's pretty much the general design across the board.
I hear ya, you got it about as much as possible anyway. But the over vs under axle does make another bend. The under ones for GST and GSX both are less bend I think if done right. And the whole angled muffler end is a result of less bends too. I really want one that barely angles under my rear axle (GSX) but don't see an ebay cheap-o...

Found this while looking through my pics for somethign else. Thought I would put it here.

This is a 2.5" stainless catback I purchased from JapanImportShop on eBay. As mentioned previously, has excellent welds. I had no fitment issues, it was a breeze to install. I installed this last year, the exhaust note has changed a bit, but still sounds good. There is no rust anywhere yet. I am still satisfied.

$190 to my door, and IIRC took about 5 days to get here.
