I know there are threads on this but I haven't been able to find a real answer on this yet. I have a 95 tsi (FWD) and am looking to pick up a cheap exhaust / DP combo. I had a full Apexi TBE on my last one but I'm not looking to spend that much coin again.

My question is, you see all of these ebay cat-backs and downpipes, has anybody ever found a combo that bolts right up? 3" DP to 3" cat-back? I am aware that some of these neck at 2.5" and that some of them have to be cut and re-welded. I am also aware that a local fab shop could make me an exhaust. I just want to find the simplest solution possible. Please only post if you have direct experience with what I'm asking, thanks!

I have an ebay downpipe and cat-back. I cut the flanges off where they meet to put on a high flow cat. The downpipe fit fine, the catback fit ok, touches the frame and suspension a bit. I miss my RS*R though :(

When I had my ebay catback, fitment was perfect on my extreme down pipe. Since then, I have chopped it up and welded up a new exhaust, but still using the ebay muffler.

Its hit or miss on the fitment. The DP and Catback always seems to line up fine. But the rear portion sometimes is a bi***. I had to cut the last flange on the curved pipe that comes around the gas tank and re-weld it at a different angle.

1 was a perfect bolt in. The other 3 were cut and weld the flange.

I think you mean SR*S? That's what cat back I have on my car. I got it off ebay for about 200 shipped and it evens comes with a reducer to bolt up to the stock cat if you don't replace that right away. I would suggest the SR*S cat back, great quality, great price and sounds amazing!

Nope, RS*R. It's been discontinued for a few years now.

I have the ebay one from the seller japanimportshop. The fitment was ok. The rear part was the worst. We had to get universal hangers and bend them to fit. As far as a downpipe im unsure of because most dp get rid of the cat.

i got a ebay cat back srs brand... no complaints.... it bolted up perfectly to my stock downpipe, I then upgraded to a RRE downpipe I had a muffler shop cut off the 2.5" flange and weld a 3" flange and its perfect...no complaints

its not hard or complicated at all to cut the neckdown 2.5" flange and weld a 3" flange... most exhaust shops have them laying around im sure..... took the guys less then 10 min to finish cutting and welding the flange along with a wideband bung i had welded on my downpipe

I'm not attacking you directly eclipsemf.... but,

:ohdamn: ... this is what happens when people fall into the ebay trap. You start confusing real, legitimate, high quality products (i.e. RS*R), with cheap, chinese knock-off garbage (i.e. SR*S.... which is CLEARLY a rip-off).

RS*R has been making high quality exhaust and other components for years. Legit, made in Japan products.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I just wanted to see if anybody had found an ebay combo that bolted right up. Doesn't sound like it, looks like I'll just take it to the local shop to get cut and welded.

Ebay products are hit and miss. Heck, even custom products are hit and miss. My "custom" hand built stainless exhaust needed a few extra hangers and the flanges needed to be turned and re-welded to fit after I finished hanging bodywork. Probably best to get a fab shop to build you one.

I have the full SR*S. It's a stainless tube with a flange TIG welded on it. The welds are excellent. It fits great, except one hanger needed to be trimmed. Why on earth would you dump 5x the price on something as simple as that?

Also, $80 for a nice downpipe to weld/hack to shreds to fit your custom manifold / turbo setup is a hell of a bargain. You spend more than half that just for the stupid v-band kit for a B-W.

As far as direct fitment, it really depends on your setup. I highly doubt it wouldn't give any grief. RRE has a nice selection of mandrel bands to fit and finish with, and a spool of ER70S6 melts the stainless and the mild steel together like butter.

I wouldnt get a shop to weld it together, then if you wanted to unbolt it you would have to cut it. I would look into a RRE downpipe.

I'm not talking about welding the DP to the cat-back. I'm just talking about cutting the DP to length and welding on the flange for it.
