So i was thinking of getting a 20g but an ebay one. I know that its about 50/50 some people think they are shit some say they are pretty good. Well im not going to race this car just to use as a fun DD. My next point theres a vendor selling 20g i think he is from cali and it says if not 100% satisfied money back. So i was thinking buy it and just beat the shit out of it and see if it lasts i mean i have nothing to lose. What do you guys think?

Im pretty sure if you "beat the shit out of it" he wont give you your money back if something goes wrong...

well i mean like run it at high boost and see if i can take it
What do you consider high boost, and do you have supporting mods necessary to make this happen?

A 20G compressor really wakes up above 20psi; to do this you'll need a 255 pump and 650cc injectors at the minimum. On the stock fuel system you probably wouldn't be able to exceed 10psi....at that point your current turbo would feel faster.

Is your current "Big 16G" turbo a MHI turbo or an eBay unit?

Also be advised that you can turn your Big 16G into a 20G with the purchase of a compressor wheel and a compressor cover, or have your current compressor cover machined to accept the 20G wheel. This would be more cost-effective choice than buying a whole new turbo, and more reliable if your turbo is a true Mitsu 16G; unless yours is trashed.

It is not always necessary to balance a turbo when you rebuild it ( when certain criteria is met). There are some very knowledgeable members on this forum that can rebuild your 20g for around $150. I am currently tackling my own turbo rebuild :thumb:
where do you get the rebuilt kit?
and my next question whats the difference between the 20g and a 50 trim?hp?
and when do they start to spool?

Don't buy one of the POS eBay turbo's. Seriously man do you want your car to break down? WTF Talk to (jusmx141) on here. He does an awesome job rebuilding turbo's, and I'm almost positive he has a 20g for sale currently.

where do you get the rebuilt kit?

Any turbo parts vendor sells rebuild kits. Keep in mind the eBay turbos are bastards- they use parts from both Mitsubishi TD05H and Garrett T3 parts kits.

whats the difference between the 20g and a 50 trim?hp?

In terms of airflow, the 20G compressor doesn't produce quite as much airflow as the Garrett 50-trim compressor. There are a TON of airflow variables between these two turbos including turbine housing choice, turbine wheel choice, compressor choice (the "Frank" 20G's), and compressor cover choice. A 20G wheel inside a TD05H compressor cover will not produce as much airflow as a 20G wheel inside the TD06 cover with a 3" inlet; a 20G with a TD05H turbine wheel will not flow as much air as a 20G with a TD06H turbine.

If you're looking for a cross between the 20G and 50-trim, look at the FP DSM Green. It's a 20G with a 50-trim compressor wheel.

when do they start to spool?

Again, there are too many variable to give you a definitive answer on spool times. A 20G with a TD05H turbine mounted on a 2G (8.5:1 compression ratio) will yeild a much quicker spool than a 20G with a TD06H turbine mounted on a 1G (7.8:1 compression ratio), but the smaller turbine will limit your flow potential if you're running very high boost.

I had a pile of them, but they're going fast! I didn't even place any ads in the classified section and sold two to members on here....another local customer is coming to buy one tomorrow. All of the ones that have sold had a TD05H turbine, so most of the 20G's I have left have a TD06 turbine and are set up for an external wastegate either off the manifold or the o2 housing.

30psi and yes i have all the supporting mods.yes i have a 255 pump and 780cc injectors. its an ebay one that was purchased by the previous owner. well i dont want to use my current turbo to turn into a 20g

You're not going to be able to run 30psi *reliably* on an internally-wastegated turbo.

Honestly, I'd start looking at compressor maps if I were you. Find something with a compressor wheel that is very efficient at 30psi if you're serious about running that much boost; a little lag will be appreciated on a FWD.

Neither one of those turbos are going to take you to 30 psi. I had a 50 trim and switched over to a pte 6169 and love it. I think it has better characteristics than my 50 trim. 35r compressor wheel but i am switching over to a full t3 setup to actualy run this turbo. I would not run any bolt on turbo at that psi personally.

The 20G's are proven more reliable on our cars than Garrett Hybrids, and the 20G will be a direct bolt-on replacement for your 16G using all your existing oil and coolant lines. The 50-trim would require you to cap off your coolant lines and purchase additonal oil line hardware.

The TD05H 20G's are a restricted to below 25psi because of their smallish turbine, and the DSM Bolt-On turbine housings on todays popular Garrett hybrids don't allow the turbine wheels to flow to their potential, as described above by 96_charcoal_tsi.

I would buy a 20G with a TD06 turbine and run it at 22-23psi if I were you. The TD06 turbine of the 20G will add just enough lag to make the turbo fun on a FWD car, and you'll have growing room if you ever decide you want to build your engine and run 30psi.

alright dude i appreciate the help im still a noob i bought the car modded but the turbo has alot of shaft play including in and out. Buy i think im going to go with the 20g TD06 tourbine.now to find one for decent price.Maybe go with a used one:)

I have them, but unfortunately none are set up for an internal wastegate. You'd have to find an o2 housing that would allow you to use an external gate, or a manifold that would do the same. The o2 housings and manifolds that are set up for external wastegates sell for around $200-$250, and XS Power has some good knockoff external wastegates for $65 shipped.

Talon/Eclipse Mild Steel Tial 38mm external wastegate atmosphere dumped o2 housing 2.5"

38MM 2 BOLT BLACK Wastegate, XS Power Inc.

Any turbo I sell is fully rebuilt before it ever leaves the shop.
