1G Eagle Talon Newbie needs help - Low boost

Hi guys, OK so just new to the form and really need some help on my first project 91 eagle talon AWD turbo

So first question, I bought the car about a week ago only thing aftermarket is 16g evo 3 turbo and a Boost gauge. So my first question(s) are when I build boost it only stays @ 0.5 boost, and researching 0.5 boost is about 7.25psi...that kind of turbo should be pushing at least 20psi...so I think its a major boost leak, how would I find/test to see if its leaking?...second besides that its bone stock, what mods should I look into getting first?

Gauge probably reads in bar. Should check for boost leaks anyways as part of your maintenance, also could be your boost solenoid is not hooked up or missing and might need a manual boost controller.

Verify if the vacuum line from your wastegate goes directly to your j-pipe or if its T'd off to the boost solenoid as from factory.

If you have no other mods than turbo, you don't want any more boost, maybe less, until you can supply the car with more fuel and have a way to measure that (and adjust it).

I understand what Maui is saying. 7 lbs of boost is stock wastegate pressure without the boost solenoid hooked up, having the car completely stock with a E316g hanging off of it shouldnt hurt engine at stock boost levels. It should be common sense that 20 lbs of boost would require fuel mods and tune.

Research son! It's simple you need more fuel and a way to tune before you can utilize that evo3 16g. What are your goals for the car? If you want to run 20psi. Atleast you need some 650-850 injectors to not be maxing them out. You also need more fuel so a bigger pump w190 or 255 (should use afpr). You also need a way to tune (ecmlink, black box and flashing) to make all that useful so you can run 20psi. Before all that you need a motor that can handle it. So make sure all the maintenance is done. And I would do a simple compression test and see what numbers you get. All the info you need is on this site! Just search

Do a boost leak test first. You can make your own boost leak test dirt cheap. There's a thread somewhere around here, you can also grab a spray bottle andfill it up with soap and water. Spray the intake and hoses and look for bubbles. I heard some people use smoke to find leaks as well.

It should be 20 psi? What makes you think that? Type of turbo doesnt tell you what boost it is running, its control system does. Stock wastegate spring is probably about where it is. Is it capable of more? Absolutely but on a stock car that would be foolish. make sure that's a genuine 16g. Pics please
