dying at low idle an start up

i have a 93 4g37 eclipse M/T an im having a problem with the car dying on me. The car will die at start up unless i keep the engine reved up until the idle smooths out...an then sometimes when i put the car into nutral an let the idle die down below 1000 the car also seems to die. could it just be a vacume leak? (an what lines should i check) or could it be something else. I also have a weak alternator that im replacing too if that helps any.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and the alternator is putting out at least 13.x volts and then go from there. You need to make sure the charging system is up to par before you do anything else. With the engine running, a quick measurement of voltage across the battery terminals should show approximately 13.3-14.7 volts. If you are getting 12.x volts, that's not enough.

An easy way to check for a leak is to spray brake cleaner around the gasket areas. Also check all you vacuum lines for cuts I doubt its a vacuum leak but could also be you iacv.
