So recently my car keeps dying when i put in the clutch or just put it in nuetral and just coast, and sometimes the car wont start.

Yesterday it wouldnt start and i wiggled around the wire on the negative battery terminal and it started to smoke and pop, but then it ran fine. But today it started acting up again.

Is it just a bad ground?

What started to pop and smoke? Have you BLT'ed lately? Have you checked all of your grounds?

the wire connector that connects to the negative battery terminal.

and whats BLT'ed?

sorry when it comes to electrical stuff i have no idea whats going on.

Boost Leak Tested. You never know, a small leak is disastrous on our cars. When you take the negative off for a certain amount of time you are resetting the ECU so that's why your problem is resolved for short periods of time. It's normal for it to spark a bit when you first ground the terminal to the battery.

Il boost leak test it but i dont think thats what it is.

Like it will run fine one minute and then the next time i start it up it will run horrible.

Whenever it dies and wont start, the lights in the dash start out very dim then start to get brighter until it has enough power to start.

Could you check the voltage on your alternator? If you dont have a voltmeter take it to your trusted auto parts store generally they test it for free. They can test your battery to. It's defiantly something electrical if it's involving your dash lights.

Could be that your MAF is not connected properly or it went bad also. Did you by any chance remove your intake for any reason?

If the MAF wasn't plugged in he would have really poor drive ability not just dying when the clutch is depressed. It's worth checking it though, you never know on our cars.

If you are having dimming problems then it is electrical. Check your battery cables for corrosion, it will be greenish-white and will be all over the copper. This is a COMMON problems with cars this age. When the car idles down the voltage drops below what can sustain the engine. Your battery is probably dieing as well.

Good Luck.

yea im pretty sure i figured it out.

The terminal that connects to the negative side of the battery needs to be replaced (i bought a new one today) and since my bov is vented, the ecu has to adjust to the loss of air. so every time the battery becomes disconected the ecu resets, and after it resets the ecu isnt adjusted to the non-recirculated bov, so the car idles extremely poor until the ecu adjusts.

So yea easy fix :thumb:

Il be recirculating it soon i just havent gotten around to it yet.

Good idea on the recirc idea. Venting is one of the worst things you can do with the way our MAF is setup. Although, the whooooooosh from my type s is amazing vented. :thumb:

I have the type-s to. :thumb: Get a hard UICP, recirc tube and intake, and trust me, You will have plenty of sound! If it isn't a cheesy knock off ebay brand that is. :)

Yep you will be GREAT to go. I love the sound of my type-s recirced it's just as loud, IMO anyways. Good luck with your car.
