Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

A kid with a 1g Eclipse posted on a big warning on a local forum to all dsm owners. "Do not install aftermarket suspension on dsm's!!" After he bottomed out and it felt like a grenade going off. Having seen this car before, I know he has AGX's but those crappy Gold Line springs. So I told him, "the springs are all compressed onto each other so there's no give at all. So when you hit something it slams onto the chassis."

To this day people keep saying that it just needs to be dialed in better. Using that little knob on the agx's of course. This was four months ago.

Yep I got those DSM Tuners declals and put them in my back windows and one of my friends called it rice and he has a 97 Neon Sport with a big wing, body kit and manufacturing stickers stuck all in the windows, its primer and he swears that Sport is a performance package LOL.

Let see, I had a 1gb turbo guy in germany, tell me these two things.

I run 10.5:1 pistons on 25 psi..... right.

AWD never loses traction.

Shortly after he ran into the two walls while going full throttle on a entrance ramp to the autobahn (S turn).

I don't know why but this was my favorite part.

Quoted to the letter.

Kid - "Yeah, my '93 Talon has a VR4 V6 in it, a PT98 turbo, and all-wheel-drive from an Evo 9."

Me - "Nice man, pop your hood, let's check this out."

Kid - "Nah man, I don't show off my secrets. Besides, I've gotta go, puttin' in an Accord V6 into my buddy's '95 Civic tonight. Yeeea. Peac out yo. Race ya later."

...

No shit. Blue and white '93 Talon ES. Rear drum brakes if I recall correctly.

Also of humorous note, the Civic he referred to, had scissor doors [on all 4 ...], and 6 boost gauges, but only had a fart cannon muffler, and an AEM CAI.

Utah man ... it's Utah.

My shortblock has 9:5:1 Wiseco Pistons in it and It is suited for up to 30lbs.
Althought 10.5:1 is quite a bit higher its not all complete BS.

Ive yet to hear the Twin Turbo comment. And the boost fluid is by far the funniest thing ive ever heard anyone say, and the bad part about it is, ITS ON THIS SITE. I went through a pair of whitey tighties readin it and nearly a 2nd b4 i had to stop.

The funniest thing i get is ppl trying to tell me that since my car doesnt have the turbo spoiler on it that its NOT a turbo.

Also i got this one at work one day
Guy: Is that thing turbo?
Me: (Looking outside) Yep
Guy: How come i can only see 1 IC pipe (hes about 75ft away), i know thats a fake FMIC, u cant fool me.
Me: Yea nothin gets by you, its just a GS.
Guy: Yea u should of got the AWD turbo model, a buddy of mine has one and they are fast
Me: Yep

Do you have no fuel managment like he did, and have you ping-ponged your car into the walls?

I'm not doubting that, I'm doubting him. Don't associated yourself with him.

Not a dsmer, but still comical. I was at a party the other day with a shitpot of friends from high school. Lot of them are car guys. I was busy bullshiting with one of my buddies about building his 12v Cummins. Some cat walks up whom I don't know, and starts talking. Cool, whatever. My friend mentions that one day he would like to keep up with my car when its finished, the other cat then chimes in "What car do you have" I reply with a 98 GSX. He says oh I could waste those. He now has my attention. I pipe up with "whatcha got". He tells me he has a Probe and smiles. I say "well hopefully its an old school GT, and heavily built". He says it is in fact a turbo GT. He is pushing 13 psi with a few mods, and I quote, "Breaks the tires loose at 25 mph in first and second gear". I just nodded and said hopefully you have a little more than that to keep up with me, not trying to shit talk, just being honest. Now he gets on the defensive side. "So whatcha got done". I say "Fully built 6 bolt motor, SMIM, FMIC, ss fuel lines, 1600 cc injectors, 3 in tbe, DKS 272's, T3/T4 60 trim E-60 Stage 3 wheel and .63 hotside, and a 100 shot of laughing gas. So hopefully on pump gas I make close to 400-420 on pump and low boost, 500 on race gas and high boost and 600 with spray" (there are a LOT more mods than that, that was just being general). He says he can probably hang with me, and there is no such thing as a T3/T4, its either a T3 or a T4. Wow. He also tells me that a local dsmer is twin turbo like my car and has a T4. I say, "DSMs aren't twin turbo, and that particular kid has a 20G" Basically we argue about turbo stuff and that he can probably beat me if I don't spray, but we both, and I quote, WONT be able to keep up with my buddy in his basically stock 12v cummins truck. WTF I walked away.

You should've told him to put his money where his mouth was, at the track of course.

Wow, that kid is a douchebag. I hate people like that. Its like seriously, dude, dont try to argue with someone who actually knows wtf they are talking about.

Why bullshit him with the 60trim talk and cams and other mods. I would of told him intake and exhaust and thats it. Tell him next week your gettin a bodykit to help with downforce because u are spinnin at the tree LOL. Ask if he wants to go to the track and run for some green paper. Smoke his ass, take his money, and thats all she wrote. I HATE argueing, if i wanted to argue id go talk to my girlfriend or something, seriously, dont waste your time.

 I've heard just about everything that's been said already! How funny! Here's one from my local board. The guy's name is ChicagoMike and he has an '03 Cobra.

Here ya go: I'm out riding my bicycle for weight loss purposes and I come across a candy blue Eclipse from the late 90's. He's leaning up against his car, while it's running, talking to his other young friend in Polish. I am taking a break with a bottle of water, so I walk up:

Observating: Candy blue (powder?) full bodykit and huge painted wing, BIG protruding intercooler under the front bumper, racing seats, some Apex-i controller box sitting on top of the dash in plain view, pretty low to the ground, and hood pins.

ChicagoMike: Nice Eclipse. AWD?

Polish Kid: Yeah.

ChicagoMike: Are you on any of the forums? Chicago Velocity? ChiTown racing?

Polish Kid: not sure what that is or what you're talking about...

ChicagoMike: Do you race anywhere?

Polish Kid: Yeah. Here.

ChicagoMike: Where's here?

Polish Kid: Around here, and US41.

ChicagoMike: I see. Can you pop the hood? How big is your Turbo?

Polish Kid: *shakes head* no verbal answer

ChicagoMike: How much boost?

Polish Kid: 52 PSI. *completely serious look*

ChicagoMike: 52?!?!! Built motor right?

Polish Kid: It's stock. Stock is good for up to 80 PSI.

ChicagoMike: Wow.... ok..... well, nice ride, I have to get going, don't be fooled by my bicycle, I'm not at liberty to tell you what I drive....

Polish Kid: Whatever works for you....

I think he meant fuel pressure.:p And for the record I hate polish people.

Good one from the other day...

I pull up to a light next to a jackass in a Mustang that was tailgating me for the last 5 miles:

Me: HEY! Its my little pony!

Driver (looks over and laughs): Its faster than that thing

Me: Oh is it? Well that's a nice pile of shit you got there, your girlfriend is cute too.

Passenger: Yea well.... its nicer than that Cavalier you got.

ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

He tired to race me but I was laughing so hard I couldn't get it into gear.

When I first moved to MI for school--this was honestly the first week I was there-- this kid walks up to me and goes:
Him: "I heard your wastegate."
Me: "Huh? You mean my blow-off valve." I only had an intake and exhaust and a BOV at the time.
Him: "Oh, well that's a pretty sweet Talon."
Me: "No, it's an Eclipse."
Him: "E... clipse?"
Me: "Yeah, Mitsubishi Eclispe..."
Him: "E... clipse? Oh, okay."
He had no clue what I was talking about. Domestic country... blah!

Not to be nit-picky or anything, but in actuality, at the time you actually had a recirculation valve (or a compressor-bypass valve), but we all know what you mean

Where is what Wikipedia had to say:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wastegate
A wastegate is a valve that diverts exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel in a turbocharged engine system. Diversion of exhaust gases causes the turbine to lose speed, which in turn reduces the rotating speed of the compressor. The primary function of the wastegate is to stabilize boost pressure in turbocharger systems, to protect the engine and the turbocharger. The wastegate is controlled by a wastegate actuator.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowoff_valve
A compressor bypass valve (CPV) also known as a compressor relief valve is a vacuum-actuated valve designed to release pressure in the intake system of a turbocharged or centrifugally supercharged car when the throttle is lifted or closed. This air pressure is re-circulated back into the non-pressurized end of the intake (before the turbo) but after the mass airflow sensor.

A blowoff valve, (BOV, sometimes hooter valve) does basically the same thing, but releases the air to the atmosphere. This creates a very distinctive sound desired by many who own turbocharged sports cars. Some blowoff valves are marketed with trumpet shaped exits that amplify the "psshh" sound. For some owners this is the only reason to fit a BOV.

Please note the red highlighted parts. If one were to simply define a wastegate and BOV as such, then they essentially could both be called wastegates, because excess gases flow through both of them. I'm not sure if I would like to start a long heated debate on the difference between wastegates and BOVs, but it seems to be that a true BOV that vents into the air is doing a similar job that the wastegate performs (that is, allowing excess gases/air into the atmosphere or down into the route of exiting exhaust gases). So it seems to be that in theory, these two things do basically the same thing on different "sides" of the turbo.

One is releasing pressure, and the other is stabilizing pressure. But perhaps the difference is just this.

kid driving a stock grand am that noticed my car earlier(and made a reference about racing for slips as he walked by ) pulls up to me at stop light and starts talking to me and a fellow dsmer riding in my car.
kid: how much boost you running?
me: 15 (im actually running about 18, but I was curious as to what he had to say)
kid: dude, your gonna blow your engine running that much, you might as well just floor it until it blows.
me: ok, nice grand am.
kid: this isn't my car.
my friend: What do you got?
kid: Integra, ls vtec.
me: That explains it.

I like how he didn't even ask about any supporting mods or what turbo I was running. He also surprisingly didn't say anything about my BOV being loud since its vented(MAFT). From now on I think I'll just say a different boost level anytime someone ask.

Sorry I didn't make a note of that when referencing Wikipedia. I assumed that everyone that is familiar with it fully understands that any Joe Schmo can post up what he thinks about basically any topic.

Ha! LOL Next time somone asks, tell them you're topping out at 2 (two) psi, and see what they say :p

Well, okay. Lol! Actually, at the time, I had a Turbo XS Type H venting to the atmosphere. Back in my rice days. :shhh: So I really did have a BOV! Oh snap!
