I sold a 1g BOV to a guy off a different forum yesterday; he had an old MR-2 with a new turbo set-up of some kind. anyway

Him: thanks, I've been looking for a BOV for two week now; 12 psi with no BOV kinda sucks
Me: um...how does that work? (I understood without a BOV that your turbo can be damaged when the air is stopped at the throttle body when closed)
Him: well it just surges real bad
Me: okay, well good luck with that
 
Kid who works at meijer walks over to me my car while I'm waiting for one of my girl friends to jump in mine so we can eat. Starts asking me about mine. I tell em basic bolt ons & a 14b. He immediately tells me about his gsx and his mods. He shows me a garbage quality video of a eclipse getting dyno'd & replies "greddy exhaust, greddy turbo, greddy intercooler, greddy bov." I asked "What are you using for tuning?" meijer kid - "Oh, greddy man. Everything is greddy."

I immediately put my hood down. Jumped in my car & threw my dueces up. Then a supervisor came over & had a talk with him. I guess because he stopped pushing carts. So hard not to laugh in his face. Name brand does every thang :notgood: ROFL

That turbo is done dude LOL.

You don't need a blow off valve. Really. You dont need an intercooler either. A lot of the old turbo cars didnt have either.

i got a good one when i was at a gas station a guy was checking out my eclipse and I showed him the engine. he looks back up at me and ask why I am only running 1 turbo that his 2g eclipse was twin turbo. I went over and checked it out. it turned out to be a completely stock 420a auto. then he started bragging how he can drift it. long story short he showed me and almost clipped a light pole then left.

me: yeah, just got it running, starting to tune it
Him: yeah i got a first gen this summer, it has performance everything
me: Oh yeah like what?
Him: everything, but its missing a turbo
me: oh what turbo are you gonna run? 16g?
him: whats a 16g? And no i am about to buy a twin turbo kit
me: Thats pointless for your power goals....
Him: twins are alot better for talons
me: what mangement and fuel mods are you gonna run
him: stock stuff can take it.
me: Laughed.

Got the check and drove off.

I told this kid hundred of times what to do. Never listens. Guess i'm getting another shell when he throws a rod!

There's just really bad surge. The air makes it's way back to the turbo, although it does sound cool it's not very good for a turbo long term.

I'm sure you've heard tons of turbos that surge (sounds like a turkey flutter)... It's fairly common place and that's why holsets and borg-warners usually have a built in surge ring on the inlet of the turbo itself.

Not trolling brah you dont have to have a BOV or an intercooler and lots of older turbo cars did not have them.

I am sure, that half the cali guys can tell you about the time they got pulled over for illegal mods and the cop saying Blow off valves dont come stock. On a lot of old cars and some turbo trucks even today they dont have them stock. Lots of the ones that do you can't hear. I still have a stock, recirculated bov and in comparison to a ford turbo diesel truck my blow off valve might as well be a vented ssqv. I don't really know if my boss truck has a bov or not, but if it does the mfer is quiet.

As for intercoolers. Ever wonder why the starion was badge "turbo intercooler" well a lot of turbo cars at that time did not have an intercooler and that was considered top of the line technology. Quit being ignorant.

for a reason, none the less.

having no IC or BoV isnt a big deal at 5psi........lots of centrifugal supercharged (IE belt driven turbocharger basically) dont have bypass valves for under XX amount of boost, nor are they intercooled.

btw i live in cali, on my 4th dsm and never had my hood popped. Dont drive like a douche####, and dont give an officer the reason to want to pop your hood (IE ricer mods like being retarded slow with ricer rims, cf hoods, wings, etc) and you are good to go.
 
Turbos don't have a surge ring only for diesel applications, there is also surge that has nothing to do with a BOV whatsoever, when the throttle IS open and the engine can't ingest the air. THAT is true surge. That and diesels can't use a conventional BOV since they don't have a throttle plate and can't produce vacuum, so they rely on a simulated BOV that would be electronic from the accelerator pedal, so a surge ring would be a safeguard in case that malfunctions or takes a little longer to react. A pressure differential activated BOV will react instantly because air pressure acts instantly. The flutter we hear isn't surge, it's just pressure bouncing up and down from air being released and built up again enough to trigger the BOV to open again. It's not really true surge. Flame on.

btw, a diesel is a completely different animal. it's just a big air pump where they add or remove some diesel to increase or decrease engine speed. no throttle body, no vacuum, no need for a BOV

but let's get back to the funny stories!!
 
I have a bunch of retarded diesel truck driving friends who ask if I have any BOVs so they can put them on their trucks.

I have only heard this 1 time, i asked a rx7 noob what mods he had, well its pretty common that tuner noobs always reply (cold air intake, exhaust etc etc CAMS) WTF rotary's dont have cams... ROFL funny how the whole crowd around me chuckled...

I was on craigslist recently and I came across this listing where this guy was selling a completely riced out 2002 eclipse and not only are there no performance mods, all he had done was body work like a crappy body kit, HID headlights, etc.. And to take the cake, he will only take "a BMW, Mercedes benz, Lexus. Mitsubishi Lancer evolution or a good 2002 and newes car i can take over the payments" according to his listing. Talk about an epic fail :ohdamn: LOL
 
Im sure this wasn't the case, but people do swap V8's into Rx7's. Its pretty common actually there are 3 of them running around my area. One of which was able to fit an LS7 under the hood.
you really think he had that done though if he was a ricer?
if i has an rx7 with a v8 swap i dont think he would be listing "intake, exhaust, cams, etc"
