Just got DSMlink for my 90 TSI with the MAF cable. I have been reading the "ECM TUNING" page on their site to connect everything but I cant get the program to open up:confused:. Ive tried opening it as administrator but same thing. It almost want to load but it wont. It only gets to the little display that has the version # and the pictures of the ECU, turbo and an evo. I have downloaded the latest version and the cable port is good. I'm running W7RC which should be the same as vista for the software I hope:pray:. Any help would be great. Ill take phone calls too just pm.

Thanks

Uninstalled, restarted, re-installed, works now. Oh and have to run it in compatibility mode for Vista.

"Verify that the laptop has installed the driver for the cable correctly and that it has assigned a COM port to it. You can do this by pulling up the Device Manager."

When I opened the program it said COM port 3 but on my laptop it assigned it to COM port 4. So make sure both are the same.

What is the diff between running it in compatibility mode for xp vs for vista?

Some programs that were designed for XP have issues when trying to run them in Vista or Windows 7. So they built in a compatibility mode that emulates the program being run in XP (or some older versions of Windows, back to Windows 95).

But something like ecmlink I could use with either xp or vista so would going one or the other affect the performance or how much cpu usage or memory or virtual memory it gets?

Depends. If you ran ECMlink (newest software) on a computer with XP and another with Vista, both having the same hardware components, you'd probably notice it running a bit better on the XP machine. This is because Vista is a RAM hog. I always prefer to use XP when I can, as it just seems to be less bloated, use less resources, and run better.

As far as capturing data, logging on either system will net you the same data.

Basically, the major difference I see is the stream quality of the graph as I'm logging/streaming. Keep in mind I have 35+ values logged I believe. I notice the graph to be notchy on my Vista machine, but it seems smoother on my XP machine.

And if your computer is using virtual memory, then it's time for you to save up a bit of money and upgrade your RAM. Using virtual memory will slow your computer down like crazy since it is utilizing hard drive space as memory.

I just upgraded to a 2gb dimm. Not sure at all how much virtual memory it's using. I haven't messed with that in a long time and forgot how to.
