Ive found a lot of useful information on both dsmlink and the translator pro w/ speed density. And I understand a few pros and cons to both in both functionality and finance. But I still haven't come to a solid conclusion on which one will full fill my needs on the amount I have to spend. Im upgrading to 880cc injectors and putting on a 20G w/supporting mods, fmic, and a wide band. Im still not 100% on if I need an etg. It seems that there a mixed views on it but thats another thread I guess. I would like to run speed density to get rid of the mas but I understand that it doesnt log knock and Im not to sure if the newest version that is out still needs keyspan to control timing, or if it could retard it for that matter. And it looks like I can have all the components minus the keyspan if it is needed and minus a computer for about $540. But if I went with dsm link, I would also want to do the gm maft. And I may have to send my ecu off....Unless I could find someone selling dsm link with the ecu, but it seems like I would spend around $800 with the gm mas and translator. I am pretty good with soldering and have considered soldering the eprom myself. Ive been reading and searching for hours but I still havent came to a conclusion and I dont want to make the wrong decision and end up not being able to get the car baq up with the alotted amount of money I have for it. Any input/advice will be greatly appreciated.

dsmlink for sure. its fairly user friendly and alot more guys are running them so if you have questions or problems you are much more likely to have them answered. also for the slight price increase it worth it.

Also consider DSmap it is extremely cheap and gives you all the tuning ability of DSMlink.

I seen you talking about it in one of the threads I was reading and some people made it seem like its worse than hex and binary, but I was suppost to look into it and forgot...but thanx for the reminder.

Another scary thing about Tran pro to me was that someone stated that even though it is great that you could set the ratio u want and it will maintain it for u...I think the con to that is that if ## ecu is trying to pull timing to save ## motor the tran pro may try to counter act the ecu's good job.....Or is that wrong? And dsmap does look promising...Im still reading the thread.

DSMLINK will be speed density compatible once V3 is released. So it's really a matter how urgent do you need to get rid of your MAF.

I was waiting and waiting for V.3 ^^^^.. Had to finally jump on the AEM EMS bandwagon..DSMLink is awesome.. only drawback to me was the fact that it didnt have capabilites for speed density

I say DSMLink though to the OP

Is that because its proven? Or are there any obvious advantages to it that I may have missed? My car will be prob 75% street car and 25% track. So some of the other options sounds nice, but are not mandatory.

If you dont mind where did you learn that from? Is there any guesstimate of how long of a wait?

The info has been posted a few times in the past here and on the DSMlink forums (which you need to own DSMlink to have access to). No idea when it'll release. But when it's getting close, you'll hear about it...I'm sure.

If your car will be 75% street driven, I'd recommend DSMlink or DSMap (which I know nothing about but seems popular). AEM EMS is not something you can tune yourself (unless you are really experienced and have someone to help you learn about all the features). Which means you're going to have to pay someone about $400 to tune your car. DSMlink (and I'd guess DSMap) are programs you can tune yourself. There's lots of help here and in the DSMlink forums to get you started and help out as you progress.

So if I bought a v2 dsmlink, either from someone or new, would I get a free upgrade when v3 came out??

Don't you wish. ;)

No, you will have to pay for the upgrade. But it will probably be between $100 and $200 (I was told it won't be as cheap as it is now, which is $50, but it won't be more than $200 or so). BUT, V3 is a completely new version of DSMlink and is a HUGE upgrade. They have been working on it for over a year now and have anticipated the release date about 4 times now (with it just coming and going). Just be patient and it will come out when they're ready. If you need/want DSMlink now, I would recommend getting V2 until V3 comes out. This way you have a logger and tuner and will also get used to how to tune, how the program works, how it interacts with the ECU, etc.

dsmap might be the way to go for now.

correct me if i'm wrong you can use dsmlink with a gm maf as long as you have a maft set at stock setting? that is what i have been told. I will be doing this for sure here soon, so i hope it works. When will v3 be out?

That's correct. It's what I'm doing.

And why pay for AEM and DSM link when you can get the same tuning ability of DSmap for a fraction of the price.

Yeah I agree 100%. Im going with dsmap. Spoonman, if u dont mind could u pm me ## number so I could speak to you. I have a couple questions.

This is a simple copy and paste from the DSMLINK forums with regards to the release of V3

Well, it better be. I'll just leave it at that.

Seriously, the biggest thing holding us up right now is getting the datalogging subsystem implemented. Once that's done, we can finally start running V3 full time in our own cars and start moving in all the new stuff we've got implemented in pre-alpha form in various V2 chips around here.

Can you? As far as I knew AEM was fully standalone and not a "piggy back" system. I mean DSMLink is awesome too but it's not an AEM. I speak from experience.

Not trying to Harsh on you but you dont get the SAME tuning abilites.

Mama always told me you get what you pay for LOL

Ok the only thing that has me a little stumped is on DS-MAP.NET :: View topic - Hardware Installation on the first line of preparation it says "a MAP chip (of course)". Now excatly what is that refering to? is it included with the Ostrich or is it something else I need to get. And it sux that the Ostrich is on back order, and I was ready to get it today.

And will the air temp probe for aem ems system work with it? And should I still get a pocket logger???? Or just use my computer and dsmap to log?
