ok guys i was wondering if i got an ostrich 2.0 and dsmlink .bin files could i run it on ostrich? because i can get dsmlink chip from a friend who has it but dont have the memory board for a 1g

Just get an Ostrich and use a free tuning program like Jackal (if you want speed density, DS-MAP.NET • Index page) or Tunerpro (if you want to stick with the MAF, although IMHO there is no reason to). PM me for more details if you'd like.

just "fyi" ill be buying the chip i dont have a 1g memory board witch i prety sure you need and ecmlinks site dose not have them on there! so all i wanted was a simple answer and i have prety much came down to just using tunner pro.... i have it downloaded and my ostrich is on its way do u think its okay to back up ## cds you bought at a store anyways thanks for no help

If your friend has a chip without the memory board then he probably has either an old buggy version he was supposed to discard after being upgraded (for free) or he has produced a copy with a burner. In either case, he is absolutely not supposed to be selling a chip without the memory module.

To answer the original question, no, you can not use an Ostrich to manipulate anything inside a 1G V2 DSMLink chip image because the chip is not going to run without our memory board. There's simply not enough memory inside a factory 1G processor to do what we do. The memory module is a required component.

I think backups for personal use are just fine; some of us call it "fair use".

I think selling your property is just fine; you might have heard it referred to as the "right of first sale" doctrine.

I think selling pirated copies of the work done by a small company for a niche market like ours is illegal. We also call it "being a douchebag".

You're welcome for the help.

I don't think the size or the company or market changes the facts. In any case selling others work without having the rights to do so is a douchbag move.

like i said just wondering and its a real chip just like i said no board thats all i wated to know if it could be used but im going to go with the ostrich and try that if i dont like it ill sell it and get the ecmlink v3 :thumb: whats the best programs to use with the ostrich is tunner pro all you can us i got the tunnerpro

thanks Thomas Dorris you summed it up i didnt think i could use it with out it and i guess you cant get replacement boards

so your saying if i buy that chip he would be a douchbag for selling it to me? because he dose not use it anymore so he should just give it to me then and that would not make him a douchbag hes not copying the chip hes not selling copys of chips so i see no problem hes selling me and original but since i can use it with out board im not getting it

Tom explained the details around how he would have just the chip.

If he tried to sell it to you he would in fact be a douchbag for two reasons. First because he tried to take your money for something that doesn't work, without the daughterboard it should be installed in, and second for selling something he should have returned or destroyed.

How can we make it any clearer than this.

What you want is to learn how to tweek the ECU parameters yourself using TunerPro RT that comes with the Ostrich, get DSMap/Jackal and run speed density from Hakcenter, or get a real copy of DSM/ECMLink from Tom.

If you go the first route you have a steep learning curve but you can get the basic xdf file for the stock code from the DSM-ECU yahoo archives.

Ok Steve I see your point and u seem to be very knowledgeable and by the way sorry for the grammar on here .I got warned, anyways my main reason is to get away from a vpc. Awhile ago you told me they were junk, when I get my ostrich and go true speed density what is the better ways of doing so and what all would I need. The programming and tuning will be hard but I think I will catch on quick I'm kind of computer savvy.

Calling a VPC junk is a little strong but they are antiques and there are better options like ECMLink and Jackal. You'll need a MAP and Intake Temp sensor to run speed density with either.

The advantage to both of these is that your not having to learn the programming just learning how to tune with them using their client software running on your laptop.

See their websites for details.

Thanks I made a login at ds-map and found it.

I run DSMap and I really like it. You already have the ostrich and the eprom ECU so that's 95% of the cost in the conversion. Seems like a no brainer to me.
