I don't understand how people can define DSMLink as a piggyback device.
It doesn't tap into any wiring.
It is in fact an OEM ECU with a chip that permits certain parameters to be altered via an external device.
Hmmm... kind of like an AEM which is a non OEM ECU that permits certain parameters to be altered via an external device (laptop).
Both plug directly in the the oem wiring harness as a REPLACEMENT for the ecu that used to be there. DSMLink requires REPLACING an eprom in an oem ecu, but the end result is still a single device capable of managing the engine.
A piggy back device is one that taps into the existing harness and operates in conjunction with the existing ecu. Things like AFC, PMS, XEDE, EMANAGE, etc.
If you remove the piggy back device, the car will still run with the OEM ecu.
Unplug the DSMLink or AEM and the car isn't going anywere under its own power.
