Hey peeps i have a 2000 eclipse and i was gonna swap the engine for a jdm 4g63. but im going to trade it in in about 3months. My question is how many miles is too many miles on a gsx, because im planning on getting alot of mods for it and i wanted to know that if i put the mods will the engine last along time................................i hope u all understand what i wrote. ......................:dsm: :dsm: :thumb: :dsm: :dsm:

Why dont you just buy a 1g eclipse instead. Sell the 3g, buy 1g, use extra money from sale to mod.

As for miles? I'd just buy the lowest mileage one you can find for the money you are looking to spend. Why anyone would ever throw a 150k+ motor into a newer car boggles me.

errr ive never seen somebody sell a JDM with 150k miles ??

mostly they sell with about 35-50k miles.

Oh woops, I missed the JDM in the first post. Yeah those are generally all under 40k miles due to Japanese Crazy Insurance Program

Depends kinda. Say if the car your looking at has 100k miles on it, but they are 90% highway miles your in good shape.

I would take a car with double the amount of highway miles over a car that was all stop and go driving anyday.

Friends 91 240sx had 176k on it when he sold it, immaculate condition ran smooth as hell. All highway miles from when his dad owned it and just drove it back and forth to work.

When I look for a good used car. I try to find something in the 60k-90k range depending on the condition of the rest of the car.

yeah.... my car has over 60k of JUST highway miles.. the kid bought the car to just drive from school-home on the weekends and back was a 500 mile drive every weekend i guess.. kinda nutz :)

All used cars have "highway miles". I've never seen an account of "beaten like an ugly, red-headed stepson every damned time I drove it, and that was just ON THE WAY to the track".
There really doesn't seem to be much of a rule for GSX miles. A couple of AWD burnouts can finish one. So you mostly have to guess at whether the seller's lying to you, and how much. Then you place your bets and takes your chances.
One of my personal rules is "fewer mods = better". Those mods weren't put on as tax shelters, they spent that money with one goal: speed.

yeah when i got my car it wasnt even touched... i think all he did was change the oil and replace the belts..

When a car has mostly highway miles on it, like some guy who drove it back and forth to work each day on the highway is better than someone who drives in the city each day stop and go.

Of course all cars have highway miles, thats not what I mean.

i have 88k miles and want to start ugprading the car. is that too many miles? will it hold up to 300+ hp mods? is there anything that i need to do the engine first other than a tune up?

My car has 133,000 miles and I plan on modding it. eventually now short block etc. its gunna be my lil pump gas racer.
