Is there any vendors out there that make such a computer chip? I know there is one out there for the BMW's where u tell the vendor what you have done and they create a chip to be plugged into the computer to update the computer. I haven't seen such a thing for a DSM though???
thanks

I have a chip form dsmchips.com and I am extremely happy. W/ these cars you simply don't put a chip in and get 40hp or anything. If anyone tells you they have a chip like that which adds hp from the chip alone for a DSM they are lying!!! The chips more or less just take away major restrictions (like fuel cut) and can give you cool advantages like a stutter box and no lift to shift, or compensate for bigger injectors. A turbo diesel truck is one thing, a dsm is another when it comes to chips.

I would look for a local electronic/engineering shop. Maybe find a place that fixes circuit boards and such. While you are having your ECU socketed I would also replace your ecu caps.

If you order a chip from DSM chips they will give you what you need to socket the ECU. You will have to pull the ECU out of the car and take it to an electronics place. I would ask the local dsm club in your area where they have stuff like that done for their cars.

i'm also wondering that. I have a 97 gsx and I'm getting my friends safc and 550cc injectors when he goes to 770cc and dsm link this winter. I really was hopping I could get a chip for my car. would the dsm chip work if I get a 95 eprom ecu? how hard is an ecu swap?

Dave,

DSMlink is the way to go if money isn't an issue. Getting a chip can be a very cost effective solution if you don't have the money for a link. The cost of socketing is a wash since you have to do that for both and you can unplug your chip and plug in the link PROM later when you have the scratch.

I got a keydiver chip and am very happy with it and the service from Jeff O. I actually have the money for DSMLink, but decided that I didn't want to drive around with my laptop. I went with the Pocketlogger and the SAFC II.

Like other people that I've read about on the forums, the keydiver chip was programmed to compensate for my 650 injectors and it was actually very close. I've been able to lean it out a bit in the lower rpms and richen it up a bit at the higher rpms.

I had the 255hp fuel pump installed even though the AFPR was backordered. Now that I have the Aeromotive AFPR installed, I am feeling a lot more power. I was having trouble with my launches before the FPR and the SAFC II fuel control. I kept bogging my launches because I think that I was running too rich.

Now everything is great! :thumb:

you only need the laptop with dsmlink when you want to change something. it works the same way as a hard coded chip, except that it is totally programmable and you will never outgrow it. there isnt any comparison between the two imo, dsmlink owns :)

you can also run dsmlink from the palm.

That is good to know. The thing is though...if you are able to tune properly with a less expensive setup...once the car is tuned...is there any other reason to go with DSMLink instead of a dsmchip, pocketlogger, and safcII?

much better interface, logging, integration, link has more features, you arent lying to the ecu like you are with an safc, ability to grow with your setup... cost difference is only a couple hundred dollars between the two, less if you already have a laptop and a 95 car.
