2G Drive gear oil seal needed in oil pump?

Hi,
I am rebuilding the oilpump and watched John@IPT in his video saying the oil seal for the drive gear in oil pump is not needed. Anyone knows why?

I installed the seal to be on the safe side since no one answered. Believe Mitsubishi had a plan adding the seal to the 2G

Mahooosive bump I saw this as well and was searching, this thread came up. I saw the same IPT vid, can anyone comment as I'm just rebuilding the internal components prior to sticking mine back together.
