2G Door Handles Help! [Merged 11-7] broke broken eBay replacement repair handle outside

Hey man, that happened with my old RS. I called the dealer and they told me that the piece used to be like $30 but since everyone’s started falling off they bumped the price up to $75. It was another $140 for labor and install. I checked around pick and pulls and they were a little less. Call up some local pick and pulls or try ebay.

Welcome to the club. I went to a local body shop, the handle and labor was only about $55.

Yea that freakin handle is cheap plastic, it must have broke cuz it was cold. I wonder how the eastcoast handles it then cuz it was only about 45 here in cali. Anyway, i found some on ebay for 40-60$. I thought they would have been cheaper. Thanks for the replys!

ONe thing to think about though, i was thinking of shaving my doors handles, maybe this might be a good time. Anyone done this or know if its a good idea or not?

If you have some money set aside for shaving the handles I would go ahead and do it now. Have you looked into all the things you'll need yet?


I think it looks clean as hell, and I would like to shave mine as well.

Well, it happen to me two days ago. Blast those plastic door handles! It just snapped right on one hinge (the one that controls the spring). Well, there she is below: $84 of DSM quality. Good news for all you white 2g people. The parts man said that Mitsubishi only sends white handles now. He said that black ones are becoming more rare.

I have to get this thing painted now because my car is silver...boo whoo. I'm defintely opening my door now using the pull handle to unlatch, then use your hand on the window or outside door edge to pry open the door.

I know what you mean. I had a 1990 GSX in south dakota when I was stationed there. Sometimes it got to -40s outside, and the handles would freeze shut. One day I brushed all the snow off and pulled on my drivers handle and it snapped off. Went to the passenger side and that one broke off. I had to crawl in through my hatch past all my stereo equipment (removed the back seats and it was all filled with subs/amps etc) for the next month. Mitsubishi door handles are shit. I was so pissed I swore I'd never buy anything by the company again.

Well, my drivers door handle (Outside) is ebcoming a little loose and thats bothering me alot, I guess its time to get new ones (since I'm going to do one side might as well do the other). Some tell me the difficulty of swapping door handles (outside) ? easy/hard?

I was at my friend's garage and when i went to go open my passanger door to grab something, the door handle snaped off!
my friend got a good laugh at me :thumbdown

its a 97gst, i cant believe its falling apart on me!

Here are few noobish Q's:

Has anyone tried to glue the handle back on?

Does a 96 eclipse or 96+talon handles fit?

Yeah any eclipse/talon through 95-99 should fit. My handle fell off to a couple of months ago!! They are usually 80 bucks at the dealership...Try E-bay they usually have them on there a little cheaper. I know it Sucks.

*Also, I think a Dodge Avenger, and sebring(dont know the year) door handle's may fit too?

Common problem. "Conventional wisdom" is that it mostly afflicts 2g's, but I've seen 1g handles just suddenly snap off too. I hope that someday somebody starts making ones with METAL parts inside instead of this cheap plastic...

there was a thread about this once asking how many people have ever broken a doorhandle. it probaly set a record for longest thread. Seemed like EVERY FRIEKEN DSM'er had at least one handle break on there 2g. Some talked about 3 or 4 handles break on them. Scary for me considering mine hasn't yet (knocks on wood).

My door handle is just slightly loose. I tightened the bolt that is along the side of the doorjam, but other than that, how else can I tighten it?

Do I have to take the paneling off? God, I hope not.

Well, thanks for the bad news.

Does anyone know where to get those little plastic things that hold the panels on? I need some of those and those plastic things that also hold on the moulding along the door too. The 'universal' ones from autozone don't work. Do I have to go to Satan?
