I've been looking for something to cover the interior doors with for about 10 years. I need help finding it.

Everything is/will be removed from the doors. Even the window and door lock switches will be re-routed to the center console.

I need something extremely light but looks OK to cover the interior doors. Maybe something dark grey or flat black. I don't want any shine on it (like my black leather chair has, for example), and I don't want it to look conspicuous or out of place.

I found some thin outdoor carpet that had kind of an auto-like texture. After about 7 years of consideration, I gave up finding something better and decided to go with it... but they had stopped making it!

I need something, this is like a never ending quest!

In case you don't know what I'm saying, I want something less like this:

(this is not actually a door cover, LOL)

In my search, I've actually seen interior door covers on a drag car Eclipse. That was about 5 years ago and I never got any info.

The point of this is just so I don't have the guts of the door frame exposed.

I don't want it to look like I have carpeted doors. LOL

The lighter the better. Anyone have any ideas of material?

I think what you want is sheet metal. Its light, cheap, can be painted any color, and is often used on drag cars.

Hmm... you know, I always avoided metals because I want to keep it light, but you know, I have some sheet metal flashing here and it's extremely light since it's so thin. So that's actually probably my best bet.

I wonder what they did for the edges. I don't know if I can do a good job rolling the edges. Something to look into though. I haven't got any better ideas.

I wonder if I could manage to completely modify the door release and door lock so that it's right on the edge, near the actual latch. Use some kind of custom latch. Maybe a handle from a different car at the junkyard. I think it might be cool just because it's different. This is the kind of thing that makes me get up and do it.

I might actually try dark grey or black vinyl if I can find some that is completely gloss free. Preferably texture free as well.

CF definitely wouldn't be the cheapest option. but would be light and look the best. Fiberglass would probably be the cheapest.

If you want the best of both worlds use a piece of sheet metal and buy some carbon fiber vinyl off ebay and put it on.
Also you will want to rivet the sheet metal to the doors.
