hey i need to get some new axles and was wondering how can i tell if my 97 n/t gs has abs? i assume i do since i have rear wheel disc brakes but just wanted to make sure...thanks.

Not necessarily. It was something like a $3,000 option when I bought my 97. I passed on it. I think there is something in the VIN which confirms it. Maybe not there, but maybe on the door sill decals? Check your owners manual? Get up to about 45mph on a back road and mash the brakes. Be careful as, if you don't have ABS, you could very easily break into a slide there.

As far as I know, most vehicles don't come with muscles, so I don't know how you could have abs.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Seriously though, what dr1665 suggested is a good idea. Just maintain control of the car, and do it in a wide open area where you can't really run into anything. :dsm:

Dont do anything stupid, call your dealer and give him your VIN and he/she will let you know.
You callin' me sto0pid? :D

Another idea is to inspect the front hub area for the ABS equipment, but yeah, calling the dealer with the VIN might just be the easiest way to do things.

EDIT:
And while I would never encourage someone to drive like a total asshat, the only way to know if your ABS system works or not is to test it once in a while. (Wait. I guess there is a light for the ABS system and...)

DO YOU SEE AN ABS LIGHT WHEN YOU START THE CAR? IF NOT, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE ABS. EUREKA!

(I love it when you figure something out like this...) :shhh:

^^Why couldnt I think of that? Nice one.
Oddly enough my name is Jurica...pronounced Eureka. :shhh:
Dude. That is totally the highlight of my day. It was like the light came on over my head. I think my neighbors here in the cube farm might be onto my surfing at work, because I leaned back from the desk and almost shouted the answer when it hit me. ROFL ROFL ROFL

I got a speeding ticket on the west side of Eureka, KS once for doing 97 in a 55. Then I got another one on the east side for doing 80 in a 55. The second one was total BS, as he claimed to "pace" me, while I was stuck behind gramma doing 54 in an old Dodge Aries K car, but never-the-less. That's the only other Eureka story I have. :shrug

Cool. I have tons. Basically anytime I meet someone new and I tell them my name they go on about the vacum cleaner or the greek guy who said it...good times.
