does my gs-t have a BOV?

i just bought my 1996 eclipse gs-t and i was wondering if it has a BOV. the horsepower cuts out at about 5500-6000 rpm and the guy i bought it from said its because it has a recirculation valve and not a BOV. can someone help solve my problem?

All turbocharged cars have a blowoff valve. Dsm's, and most other stock turbocharged cars have something called a recirculation valve that blows off the air back into the intake pipe. You DO NOT want to disconnect this as it will make your car run HORRIBLY.
2g's have crappy plastic bov's that don't hold pressure well. Get rid of it and either salvage one from a 1g, or buy one aftermarket.
 
You pretty much have a bov, but if your refering to the loud sound you hear when you shift, then no you don't hava a bov :cool:
 
Guy you bought it from was a moron.

Reason power cuts out at high rpm is most likely fuel cut. Do a boost leak test. Visit VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions to learn how to make and use a boost leak tester.

Recirculate your blow-off valve, or more accurately, your BYPASS VALVE.

Use NGK BPR6ES spark plugs; don't you dare put platinum or iridium plugs in that thing.

Don't turn up the boost without the supporting mods. For a list of the supporting mods, visit the Upgrade Path in the tech section of this site.

Your car has a BOV but in its stock form, it is made from plastic and only good for holding stock boost (~11 psi). It should have recirculation hose attached to it so every time it opens, air is dumped back into your intake. This is good because this air is already measured by your CPU so counts towards making your car run. Many people run without a recirculation hose because it sounds "louder" and "cooler" but will make your car run worse.

However, as for power cutting off at 5k-6k, please describe the symptoms more clearly. If it is simply a loss in power, then it could be due to the anemic stock turbo. However, if it feels like you are hitting a wall, then it could be several other things.
 
i thought it was a boost leak too but i dont know alot about this car yet or any turbo cars but my friends wrx did the same thing and he had a boost leak. thanks for the help. how could i fix the boost leak?
 
Click the link in my post above. In the VFAQ, there is a section called "Intake". At the bottom of the section, there is a link on how to make a Boost Leak Tester, as well as how to use it.
 
Do the boost leak check and fix the leak then read and try out the mod mentioned in the later part of This POST, also do the Fuel Pump Rewire to help get rid of the fuel cut issue. Also get yourself a logger to help you with knowing whats going on in the inside.
 
Another thing that you may want to check is your(TPS) Throttle possion sensor. I just had the same prolem you explaned with the car cutting out at 5500k to 6000k and my SAFC was not reading my (TPS) so I replaced it and my car runs beautiful now.
