Does anyone with a fairly modded car actually have A/C?

Just curious, it seems like no modded cars are available with a/c. Call me a wuss, but if it's my dd, I'd prefer a/c. I know some of you have to be in some hot states. Why no a/c? Do you all enjoy sweaty backs and pittin out anytime you go somewhere? Is the 1/10 of a second in the 1/4 mile really worth it when 99% of the time you're actually driving on the road?

I live in az. I've had some mild to heavily modded cars, they all had a/c. Pretty much the only people i see out here without air are kids in gutted honda's, wanting that extra 1/10 to maybe get them into the 15's. Track cars sre a different story, but everyone i know who drives their car runs a/c out here.

I live in north Florida, I removed my a/c conponents due to the weight. It saved me 80lbs with ALL a/c stuff removed. Believe me, though, I'd put it all back if I could. I wasn't thinking when I removed it.

I live in a cold state and I kept it. IMO the only compelling reason to ditch it on a street car is if you have a FMIC and you're having serious trouble with keeping temps down. The 100 or so lbs doesn't mean that much, instead ditch the 18s and go on a diet.

still got my a/c

I dunno do you consider awd conversion 2.3 6 bolt short block fmic and cams heavily modded?

I live in jersey. The weather is pretty mild here. I took out my a/c in my car along with the cruise control and some other stuff for weight reduction. Its August right now and I am fine with no a/c, my windows are always down though. The only thing I would complain about is it rains and my windows are extremely foggy.

use the heat LOL

I do, the numbers in my avatar are old on pump gas, but now on E85 with 31 psi i'm making 431 horse 396 lb/ft torque and have a nitrouse bottle for "just in case" (i'm hoping to use it to break 500 next time i pay for dyno time) The 431 was on a "free dyno day" where we each got a few pulls but it was based on speed and not RPM and we didn't get printouts :( So until i go next i can't change my numbers on the side bar :(

Anyway, The only way i've found to run the AC and keep the car cool is to have the stock fans in place.. i tried all slim lines i could find and none kept up, I'm even on the stock radiator and in nebraska today it's 105 with heat indext (95*) actuall, and i ran the AC everywhere i went and never even got the temps of the coolant above 199...Yey for OEM fans... I had to make complete new IC pipes when i put the fans back in but it solved every cooling issue i had :)

I took all my stuff out, but then again I do live in denver were its either snowing or...wait....snowing LOL

I have AC in my car, and I would say it's pretty heavilly modded for a Colt. It runs at 186F, sometimes 193F if it's really hot (above 90) out with the A/C on and I'm criusing at 75 MPH. It actually goes back down to 186F if I drive 55 or slower.

I live in central texas but i dont really have a choice its either a turbo or ac, but my cars gutted no ac no heat no radio no carpet, just a cage and a couple of bride seats, and id do it again. I saved 233lbs all together.

First thing I yank on any of my DSM's is power steering, cruise, sound insulation, and A/C. It's a sports car, not a luxury spa. I'll drive my daily driver if I don't want to get sweaty :D The one on my latest DSM still had it's R12 charge too. I felt pretty dirty being the slimebag to rip it out.

Sports Cars: Porsche, Corvettes, Lamborghini's, Ferrari, Subaru's, Neon SRT-s, Honda S2000 and etc.... all have A/C correct? I THINK that's why DSM's came with A/C.

I still have mine and will be keeping it. I guarantee the time difference is not that much of a difference at all. But then again, I don't like my ho's complaining about being hot. :nono:

I shot myself in the foot on that one :D I was thinking more like a Super 7, 210, 2002tii, and the like, not one of those new luxury yachts that pass as sports cars nowadays. Back on topic though - I suppose it's purely personal preference. Do you want to beat the heat or be a stupid old fart like me?

I don't know if a 2.3 would automatically make it heavily modified, but I guess it depends on the rest of the setup.

IMO heavily modified cars aren't usually driven much, especially on the street and definitely not a daily driver, so the A/C would not be a concern to most. Yes, you can keep it just as well it is really up to the owner of the car. If you have to debate whether or not it is worth it to get rid of it, you should probably keep it.

Well I'm glad some of you kept your a/c. Every AWD that has any amount of mods I've been looking at on autotrader or whereever else has no a/c. So I'll keep looking. In the meantime, I guess I'll keep my fwd laser with cold a/c.

Mine has cams and I still have the power steering and A/C hooked up, and it still blows super cold.. Its just not worth it to take it off for what I would gain. Although, it doesnt seem to like it when its loping at idle and trying to stay engaged..

I love the heat... love it... its 110 degrees outside and I'm likely not sweating at all. But if its 60 degrees out, I'm in bundled up and shivering. So HELL NO I don't have A/C, no use for it at all, plus it cleaned up my engine bay to get rid of it all.
