Anyone ever buy a heavily modded car?

I bought mine with ALOT of current mods already performed. It all depends how good you are at fixing problems. I enjoy working on cars, so it wasn't a problem for me. Currently i'm re-wiring all aftermarket electronics, and i've had the motor completely dismantled to have the head shaved due to being warped. I replaced all hoses/vac lines, belts, water pump, and soon will be replacing axles, alternator, clutch, and various other money sucking parts. I wouldn't have it any other way. :dsm: :thumb:

I bought mine with a bunch of aftermarket parts on it. The previous owner had a number of mismatched parts on it and some stuff that was completely wrong including a vented BOV that didn't even fit the upper I/C pipe, a Field Air Fuel Controller on a stock pump and injectors (what a joke), interior neon and an Injen intake that wasn't set up for recirculation. However, it came fully loaded with all the gauges I need, a Big 16G, full 3" exhaust, ACT 2100 and Chromoly flywheel and a decent suspension setup.

I picked up the car for a low price from a Mitsu dealer who couldn't wait to get it off their hands since every kid who drove by wanted to test drive it. Since that time, I'm about $2500 into it and this is something I fully expected to deal with. At the moment, I'm going to be finishing up the EPROM ECU install to eliminate fuel cut (just waiting on a fresh chip) and once the bigger injectors are on, the car should be good to go. I figure about another $600-700 in parts and tuning and I can finally enjoy the thing.

So yeah, I'd do it again, but make sure that you do your research and know what parts go together. If you can find something that's well modded and has low miles, then go for it.

mine was premodded and the previous owner did MOST things right to the car. fortunately *I think* he sold it to me "broken". the car would hit fuel cut almost every other second...

I got a good deal because of it but it turns out it was only a cracked IC hose..

but. moral of the story is, buy stock if you can.

i bought my 93 tsi awd completely stock, pulled the walked 7 bolt engine out of it and putting in a fully rebuilt 6 bolt that i rebuilt myself. i would never buy a modded car because you dont mod a car to drive it like an old granny. usually heavily modded cars are used pretty hard, and in most cases, you are buying someone elses problems.
