So here is the jist of my Frankenstein 420a build. A week ago I had both the #3 exhaust cam cap bolts snap and my Crower Stage 2 (3/4 race) exhaust camshaft snapped like a twig under the pressure. On top of that found out Crower and Brian Crower no longer make performance camshafts for the 420a
I now have to improvise which I am very good at!
This is the build.

Bottom end parts
1. Dodge Neon Eagle H beam rods
2. 1999 Toyota Camry 1mz-fe 10:5:1 hyper-eutectic pistons modified to fit the Eagle rods

Fuel parts
1. Deatshwerks 415lph pump
2. Aftermarket fuel pressure regulator set to 38 psi
3. Stock injectors and fuel rail for now

Cylinder Head parts
1. Cylinder Head ported stage 2
2. Crower springs and titanium retainers
3. ARP Head studs
4. All Cam caps are now held by studs
5. PT Cruiser's upgraded lifters
6. OBX 420a Adjustable cam gears
7. TD05 turbocharger
8. Brian Crower Dodge SRT 4 stage 3 cams modified with 3/16 titanium dowel pins that are positioned to my previous Crower Stage 2 cams (just copied the dowel pin position and cam position sensor holes was pretty simple)

With the Dodge SRT 4 cams, the cam setup is going to be flipped you will be using the intake camshaft as exhaust & the exhaust camshaft as intake.
I chose stage 3's because of valve lift is very close to each other as intake is .389 and exhaust is .383. Since we are using the SRT 4 intake cam as an exhaust and vise-versa. the exhaust will open slightly more but that is good to help feed the turbo better

When I was done I only had to adjust the exhaust cam 2° advanced

First few long drives have been great no issues purrs like a kitten, no engine codes. I was specifically looking for the P1390 since it shows when timing is off and when the cam position sensor timing is off. She sounds and runs beautiful and all off the stock ECM.

The grin on my face is priceless right now, I'm ecstatic that it even worked to begin with so big old pat on my back cause this build is a blast to drive.

I will upload videos of it idling and driving and a few of the modifications and install of the camshafts so you can see what and how I did it

Can you share specific info on how you drilled the dowels? I wanted to do the opposite (put BC Stage 2 N/A cams for 420A into my N/A DOHC Neon) but BC told me that the cams would need to be reground. I knew they were lying, but I didn't feel like drilling new dowel pin holes and screwing up the positioning.

Before pulling the stock cams on the Neon make sure it is set at TDC and copy down the first lobes positioning on the intake and exhaust (Ex. on the 420a cams the dowel pin on the intake cam is at 6 O'clock and the exhaust is at 12 O'clock) this causes the first lobes on the intake side to be at the 9 O'clock position and the exhaust's first lobes to be at the 3 O'clock position @ TDC of the 420a. The Neon I do believe it is both dowel pins are at 6 O'clock when at TDC, so just copy were the first 2 lobes are positioned when dowels are positioned down, (you dont even need the cams in the car technically, if you do it that way)

you will need to use the 420a's exhaust cam as the intake cam on the neon, and the 420a intake cam as the exhaust cam

On the neon's intake camshaft, copy the positioning of the cam sensor holes and mark in exactly the same position on the exhaust cam of the 420a, I did this by eyeballing, lining up the first 2 lobes of the Intake cam of the SRT4 and the exhaust cam of the 420a crower cam the best I could. I used a dap of paint on the nubs of the cam sensor (no bolt, just gently slide it over steadily by hand then press against the 420a exhaust part to mark)

I just used a cut wheel to slice off old dowel pin, cordless drill and a 11/64 bit, drilled in about 1/4in, Heat up the drilled opening for it to expand a little, (dont get it red hot but enough to expand and the 3/16 pin will slide in, let it cool) you want the dowel pin to hang out the same amout as what you seen when you cut off the first pin so about 3/4 length

you also will need to have adjustable cam gears since you are going to have to fine tune it and adjustable gears will allow up to 20 degree (advancement or retarding) as each mark is 2 degree's

I guess that depends which cam gears you have, but for Fidanza gears each mark is 1 degree.
yea looking at them now they might not be the fidanza's, Since both cam gears are worn pretty good LOL, I will double check they might be the OBX 420a Cam gears

Either way your going to have to fine tune the cams for it to runs smooth but it works

Were you possibly able to record a video? I'd love to get camshafts but its difficult to find the crower stage 2 exhaust side, so I'm considering doing this myself.
