Got some new 3g lifters brand new in box. Do I still have to bleed them or can I just throw them right in?

Just curious, if they're brand new. What are we bleeding out of them? Air?
I just collapse them, throw them in, and let the engine idle awhile to pump them up. Works great and no worries about valve sticking open.
