I am very new to the DSM world. I just picked up a 99gsx about a month ago and I'm loveing it. Basicly stock with a 16g, hard pipeing, and full exaust. My goal was hopefully something around 300hp, and/or to run mid 12s and I would be one happy person. My plan was to go welbro 190, 660cc injectors, and some type of piggy back tune, and I'm getting a fmic very soon for very cheap off a friend. I have a few questions,

1. I plan on ordering the fuel pump one I get home from work (at work now), right now I'm running 15psi, would I be able to bump that up to say maby 16 or 17 or so after the mump goes in or would I need to wait for other parts?

2. I was shopping around for injectors and there prices jump all over the place with diffrent brands, I'm just trying to go with something cheap that will do the job. Is there even a diffrence from the $300 ones to the $600 ones? Maby someone could shair a link, I'm on a tight budge so the cheaper the better as long as it gets the job done

3. I know nothing about tuneing what's so ever. but I asume 660cc injectors, 190 pump, and 16g the car will run like crap intill I get a tune? With out a tune am I putting my engine at risk, and would I. Be able to meat my goal of mid 12's? If I do NEED a tune, what type of piggie back's are out there for someone on a tight budget?

Also I'm only 19 and money is tight. So each part I will be buying one at a time. This is my DD and I can't affored to pay for anything twice, am I missing anything from that list that I would need?

forgot to add, i also got a clutch, so thats also out of the way

i think i would get a 255lph instead the 190 as the price difference isnt much... also you need a regulator kit... seems like everyone likes FIC injectors and 660 by them are cheap around 300.. MAPerformance has a fuel system kit with pump. injectors and regulator for a little over 300 i think. or somewhere in that neighborhood. just wait till you atleast get injectors before turning boost up.. as far as tuning i cant help you.. i just have dsmlink and havent got to use it yet. seems like people get away with gm maf with translator for something like you are doing

Your on the right path. Your plans are alot better then some of the others of seen on this site.

Why dont you you buy used stuff? I have a set of 850cc injectors for sale if you interested PM me.

I have picked up lots of used stuff on the classifieds to help with my build.

Do my plans seem right?

(1) Save for GSX
(2) Buy GSX
(3) Replan

Its all I've got so far let me know

I already have a GSX??? I was not interested if a gst, I really wanted all wheel drive so that's what I saved for and bought

To tell you the truth I havnt even thought of that, I just checked craigs list and I havnt seen to many DSM parts floating around. I'm going to check around for the stock evo injectors hopefully I can fine something very very cheap. And the fuel pump is very cheap and I live about a half hour from extreme psi so I'm just going to pick up the fuel pump from there so I don't have to warry about shiping. But thanks for the advice

You do have the right plan but you need to start thinking out of the box a little bit. People on here and various other forums sell used injectors/fuel pumps for dirt cheap and are in perfect condition. I think I only paid 150 shipped for my 880's and I've been using them for over a year with 0 issues.

To answer your other question, Yes your car will run like crap if you install all that stuff and don't get a tune. I still and always will recommend Ecmlink for a tuning system, I know you're trying to keep things cheap but this tuning system will pay for itself in no time. Also, If you're planning on just buying one thing at a time, just keep it safe in your closet until you have everything you need and take a day to install it all.

There's my 2cents for the day, Cheers!

Parts you have:
16G(Which model?)
Full Exhaust(what size?)
Hard Intercooler Piping
Clutch(Which brand and kit?)

Parts that are coming:
FMIC(from a friend, which kit?)

Parts you need:
Fuel Pump
Fuel Management
Injectors-Solely upon what you want and future plans
BOV
Gauges(I assume you have at least a boost Gauge)

What you need to figure out is your long term goals, first. Second, you said you are 19 and on a budget. I warn you now, the moment you start modding other things can happen that require more money so, just be prepared for that.

Now, 190Fuel pump, will work for ya up to around 400hp. Tuning, you can either get your ECU reflashed since you have a '99, or get a SAFC since you mentioned you would be interested in a piggy back system. Keep in mind SAFC's are good with 650cc injectors at the biggest.

As, far as boost settings. I wouldn't be trying to raise it up anymore than what you have it at right now. Any higher or even right now you may be running out of fuel as is.

Used parts, yes there are a ton out there. Just learn to look in the right places.

Welcome Aboard!

small 16g, apexi catless with down pipe, i belive 3", and the my clutch is the act 2600. the from mount im really not sure but the pictures he sent me look really good, takes up the hole bumper and he was running almost 400hp before parting out so im sure it something decent, better then my stock side mount, and i already got the 1g bov on there so thats out the way. thanks for the help, and i was looking into those reflashed by keydriver or something like that i believe. i think im going to also kinda tuck my parts away till i have everything i need at once. seems like a better idea. thanks for the advice man. helps

Upgrade to a evo maf, that will allow you to run evo 560 injectors with little to no tuning. I personally run that setup right now with a evo 16g and 190 fuel pump, 16lb with no issues. Im waiting to install my headstuds before i decide to bump up the boost. Also the evo maf will make it easier to tune larger injectors with an afc. Considering the price of the evo maf +/- $100 and dsm link +/- $450 it was the only option that worked for me. If your interested in running an evo maf pm me ;)

Before turning up the boost anymore i would get a wideband so you can keep track of those afr. Last thing you want is to blow up the motor because you were running to much boost on stock fuel system. Imo i would go: proper gauges, dsmlink, fuel pump with Afpr, injectors, then a mbc. In that order. Well Thats what Im planning. Hope this helps..

I dont know where you're getting 450 for dsmlink. Its less the 380...although the evo maf is a great idea ;)

Thanks, and I decided I'm ganna go on a used parts serch insted of saveing for everything "new". I will meet my goal a lot faster with used parts everyone is telling me. This may be a stupid question but I'm just getting into the car would I guess you can say and I havnt been to a junk yard yet. Think there's any chance at finding some parts for my car I can pull off other turbo modle dsms? Or is there no way and not worth the time?. I was ganna check out some place in south jersey called friend ships. They have good reviews and it seems pritty big, is it worth my time or is it inpossible to find DSM's at local junk yards

That sounds like a good idea, ganna do some more re-serch, and some serching around for used parts. If I can get my hads on something close to this set up I will probibly go with that. I will let you know on how my serch goes. Thanks for the help

You probly wont find much upgrade parts at local junkyards. But it wouldnt hurt to try..
Oh yes welcome to the site ;). Good luck with the Dsm :D

I agree with the guy that said you should have a wideband. When adding upgrades you should know where the af ratio should be. When under boost 11.8:1 is about where you want to be.

First off cheaping out on this car is what will leave you on the side of the road. I'm not saying don't buy used parts, but don't buy low quality parts. You can find great quality parts for cheap. My advice for you-

1) Wideband (innovate mtx-l is $189 from extreme psi and probably the best one you can get entry level right now) I run it right now.
2) Logger/tuner- screw ecmlink when you have a 99 and more than likely a flashable ecu. Look into a tactrix 2.0 tuning cable from tactrix.com. It's $190 with a reflash cable and will allow you to go big later on, much bigger and MUCH finer tuning than something like an safc. Piggy backs are outdated, especially on this model of car as a ecmlink and tactrix have smashed any competition for tuning.
3) injectors- with a small 16g you'll be fine with evo 560 injectors. They're cheap, work great, and easy to find. Also very easily dialed in with your new tactrix.
4) pump- just go with the 190lph for now. If you end up going bigger later on it'll be easy to sell the 190 and buy a 255/regulator since they're nothing to spendy anyways.

This is the how I'd be doing it. It's going to be cheaper and less of a headache to go with the tactrix than any piggy back as you're going to spend more time wiring up a piggy back, and hacking the harness. The tactrix is plug and play.

Also before ANY of this is done you need to make sure all the maintanence is done. If YOU haven't specifically had it done then do that BEFORE modding. No point in running one 12 sec 1/4 and paying a towing fee since you're timing belt snapped. Maintanence before mods. ALWAYS.
