I'm going to install a 16g turbo, 02 housing w/ atmospheric dump tube, new manifold, and injen intake pipe. Do i need a manual boost controller and boost gauge yet? I need to know if the turbo will run at stock psi (8-9?) when i put it in. I don't want it doing damage to my stock engine. I plan on puting in the guage and mbc later, but if it's neccessary, i'll put it now. Let me know if i need it, thanks.

One of the first things you should have is a boost gauge before all.

I hope you are also purchasing a REAL 16g and not the fake ebay ones.

Also, stock boost assuming you run it off wastegate pressure will be around 10-12 psi, so you won't need a mbc until you start your fuel mods and have a tool to tune your setup with.

Oh and as for the injen intake, that's way too pricey, you can get a similar intake system from extremepsi for half the cost, and it comes with great 4 ply couplers, clamps, and hoses, none of the cheap couplers ebay offers with their intakes.

if you have any turbo other than stock, it probally would be a good idea to have a boost gauge at the least. im pretty sure if you connect the boost source directly up to the wastegate, they usually open around 8 psi. if you want to up your boost then you would need a manual boost controller

i'm bought a slightly used 16g turbo, heavily ported, 02 housing, manifold and the intake for $650. Also, comes with jpipe and accessorys to install turbo. Just wondering if my engine is going to blow up if i don't put a boost control on right away LOL. And your right, i heard a lot of bad things about ebay turbos, i thought about it, but decided not to.

Boost gauge should be one of the first mods anyone with a turbo car does.

No you wil lnot blow it up.
Just run your boost off the wastegate, it will not pass 12 psi.
I run wastegate pressure at the moment but i creep so i let off at 15 psi.
I am in the works of getting an external wastegate with a 14.5 psi spring, it'll be a safe boost level still for the 16g without hurting anything, so you will be fine.

you can run about 15 lbs with the stock fuel system safely. i wouldnt go any higher than that if i didnt have anything to tune with and bigger injectors/pump

I don't know how things would work out if you were still running with the stock boost control silonoid, but you can definitely run a 16g off the stock waste gate pressure without a problem. Although mine wasn't ported, mine would run rock solid at 8 psi with a 3 inch cat-back when I took off the MBC. You'll definitely want to get a gauge and contoller soon though; the 16g at 8 psi feels, over all, about as fast as a t25 at the stock 12 psi- laggier, but with stronger pull at the top.

As far as gauges go, I definitely recommend Clear lens Gauges-Prosport Gauges Boost, EGT, Oil pressure
Although I've only been running mine for about 6 months, it hasn't given me any problems and looks great for $50

+1 for prosport.

Attractive, stealthy and work amazing i have a prosport boost and oil pressure and will soon be going with their own WB O2

I love Prosport gauges, thats the way to go. Had them in my car for 2 years now and no trouble.

Thanks everyone! Looks like i'm going with prosport, i'll pic up a boost controller later down the road when i want to increase the boost.

Boost gauge should be one of the first mods anyone with a turbo car does.

x2
I have a b16g setup and I didn't take the chance to run it off of wastegate so we installed a mbc at the same time and I'm still running off of wastegate but could put it to 15 or 16 psi If i felt the need.
Keep it stock boost till you have the proper mods to compliment the turbo.
