I know turbo your suppose to run Premium, but do you really have to? I have a long trip from FL to Michigan and back to FL again, and wanna do it as cheap as possible LOL. If I have to run 93, then I will.

From my experience yes. When I first bought my car, didnt realize that PREMIUM ONLY on my dash, and put unleaded in it, spat and sputtered, put the next higher grade in next fillup, still sputtered, then I realized I need premium (I know dumbass me). Put premium in it, purred like a kitten. To answer your question yes.

oh damn. OH well I guess I dont need no spitting and spuddering while on highway hehe. I know Im gonna wanna play.

Absolutely. You have a turbo. You have to you 93 octane, if you dont, you will destroy your engine. Simple as that.

That was my next question. What happens if I dont use 93. Thanks everyone.

How about AWD snow fun. I cant wait to go play. Unfortuanlly living in Florida, I dont get that fun :|

i do not think you HAVE to run super in it. if you are not going to be beating the car, then mid grade will be fine. think about it this way, what happens if you live in an area that their highest grade fuel is 91? i guess you can't drive then. i had a discussion with a mitsu tech, with aver 15 yearss in the feild at the same place, he said that you should run at least a 89 octane fuel, which near me is mid grade.
now everyone that previously posted, do not jump down my throat, cause i know that most of you would rather be safe than sorry, and i agree.

I think the whole octaine thing is BS. Yea its recomended but not nessary. I have never ran it my first DSM i went from WI to FL on 89 and always ran 89 never had a issue. Now I might have to run 93 just ### I have a fair ammount of mods and my car seems a lil sluggish and sputters at low ammounts of throttle. All in all its not a must but if you wanna have the extra go for it.

Engineering saying that the car should run on the highest grade fuel is not BS. The majority of us are driving cars that have a relatively low static compression ratio, but under moderate accel, jump to a rather high dynamic compression ratio. It's simple physics, without the high grade fuel, you are getting pre-ignition. Do you have to run premium? Thats your own choice, its your car, and only you can say how it behaves on the different octanes.

using 110 octane gas is only safe if you mix it with high grade pink blinker fluid and run a high flow flux capacitor in your car.

I don't have access to pink fluid or the high flow capacitor. I only have mid grade plus aqua blinker fluid and a deep charge fluid filled flux capacitor. Will that work with 110 octane petrol?

ok, i totally agree with what you are saying. but shockracer posted above that in his area, the highest is 91 octane...............so what?, he must tow his car to the nearest place that has 93, even if the next place is 300 miles away? and i am quite sure that the area that shockracer is from has a mitsubishi dealer that sold 95-99 turbo cars their new............................unless they didn't care that the area they were selling these cars' didn't have sufficent octane fuel

Only if your wiper stalks haven't stretched!

91 Octane is fine. For most of us in the midwest, that's the highest grade there is other than buying race gas. I run 91oct E10.

It will. However it may ruin your engine if you dont use low pressure boost fluid. I would also recomment getting an O-pipe for higher backpressure. And dont forget the muffler bearings to keep the fart can spinning freely. Below are links to some of the part you will need:

Flux Capacitor:
Flux Capacitor [FLUX62] - $175,000.00 : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items!
Blinker Fluid:
Blinker Fluid [BF-01] - $8.99 : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items!
O Pipe:
O Pipe (Single Exhaust) - $89.95 : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items!
Muffler Bearing:

Are you trying to reach a certain post number??? :toobad:
The high octane is High Recommendation. Almost needed, on my 2gb it states "PREMIUM ONLY". The car can and will pull timing to accommodate the lower octane, but running a lower octane can cause detonation. And since you will be driving to a state(s) with cold weather, car will spool faster, ingest more air/oxygen and you have a greater chance for detonation. Just use Premium nothing else. 90, 91, 92, 93 all help, but 91 is what you should atleast use. If you use 100+ octane, then you can mix it with 87oct. Or you can run few gallons of E-85/E-78 and then mix it with 87 oct, but I wouldn't really do that either.
I do run mix of Ethanol and 93, because Ethanol has a higher octane rating and helps clean out your system and engine.
Use Premium, enjoy piece of mind on that long trip and relax.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm just stating that its in the car's best interest to run the highest octane that you can get. 91 and 93 are great for these cars from what I've read. Any boosted car/truck for that matter. Correct me if I'm wrong but the factory fuel maps in the boosted DSMs were written to assume that the fuel being pumped into the engine was in the upper end range of octanes. Changing the octane rating to one that pre-ignites much easier is changing a factor in the calculations that the car is having trouble comprehending. Its like your TPS not reading correctly or MAP, an unaltered PCM is going to have difficulty adjusting to something it was not programmed to do.
