do I have a 6bolt head??

Well tonight I start tearing into my car and see a plug for where there would be oil lines for a 6 bolt on the head and didnt know if 7 bolt heads had this? Just curious if this would happen to be a 6 bolt or if 7 bolts have them but they are plugged. The previous owner said that the engine had been replace from the former owners before him so I didnt know. The cam angle sensor is from 97+ so I didn't know.

Make sure the V/C is off in the pis too.

Yes, both 6 and 7 bolts had the head drilled and tapped for the turbo oil feed line. On the 2g, there was a plug with a 17mm head screwed into the hole. Same for the 4g63 n/t in the 1g and edm 2g.

. Having the valve cover off won't help to tell if its a 6bolt or 7bolt head....or am I wrong?

You can tell by figuring out which intake manifold you have. I have a 6 bolt and it has an intake manifold that reads eci multi on the top.

Forgot to mention that the stud sizes for the intake manifold are bigger for a 2g, I think or is it the other way around and theres a sensor hanging loose on my intake mani its called the mdp sensor.

Yeah the oil gallery splitters are different I've worked with both 6 and 7 bolt heads

I read this everywhere, is there an exception to the rule?

I just purchased a reman'd 1st gen head from a GSX. I bolted it on a block from a 99' GST, the only thing i have found that is different is the thermostat housing. My intake manifold bolted right on. Studs sizes were identical.

Some one want to clear this up? Am i missing something?
