Hey,

My friend wants to sell me a set of used ARP headstuds. I know that the stock mitsubishi headstuds strech when they are used, and you shouldn't reuse them, but i was wondering if i can reuse the ARP's. Also is $30 for the used ARP headstuds a good deal. Thanks

Not a 100% but I am pretty sure they do to a certain degree. However I dont believe they will stretch enough to make them useless. I have had them for some time now, and I have never had a problem with not being able to get proper torque. Plus they make your job 10s times easier. So I say YES thats a really good deal. :thumb: Or put it this way. I would buy them in a heartbeat.

ARP headstuds are designed to never stretch to the point of being useless. You can reuse the ARP studs as many times as you want. Depending how much engine work you plan on doing and how many times you plan on taking the head off the car to do work, the ARP studs will more than pay for themselves in the long run.

Yes, they stretch. A bolt's ability to stretch is what provides the clamping force.

You would have to measure the stud's free standing length with a micrometer to determine if it is reusable.

I will agree with this statement completely. With that said, if they came off a mildly modified street car (not race only) and are going on the same, you should be OK. I'm just kind of anal about my car to the point that something as critical as head studs would not go on my car as a previously used item. Your call.

Give me a set on the right engine and I bet it will stretch them to the point of being UN-usable. They are just made to specifications that far exceed the normal stud. Everything fails if given enough time.

Well the only mod he has is a frontmount, and he never ran more that 15 psi with his 14b which I am also buying for $50 and the exhaust manifold. The turbo is perfect and has no shaft play.

Sounds like your buddy likes you, he's giving you pretty damn good deals all around. Just bought a set of ARPs new for about $100. Just make sure you get the nuts and washers from the top as well. :)
