Do all 90 22 spline trannies have grinding problems?

Ok so I just bought a used 22 spline trans for my car because I can't afford a rebuild at the moment(spent too much on my new turbo setup..)and the trans has 90k on it and was on a completely stock Talon driven by a old dude and even had a stock clutch in it when it was pulled and the guy said it shifts super smooth but replaced it for a built 93 trans but I've heard all 90 22 spline transmissions grind under hard driving(problem I'm having which is why I got a new tranny) and I'm a little worried about it. I'll be running a ACT2600PP, SouthBend TZ disc, Jacks clutch fork and fulcrum ball, stainless clutch line, poly shifter bushings, OE TOB, new flywheel bolts and the PP and flywheel resurfaced to spec. Anyone else have problems with their 22 spline trans grinding under hard driving even with low miles etc? :confused:
 
No, that's not true. My former 90 GSX (Former HKS Promo Car) did not grind at all when shifting gears under hard acceleration. My 92 VR-4 doesn't grind either. It's been reported that the trannies may be weaker but that's about it
 
Remember you you are dealing with a 20 year old trans that's been shifted thousands of times. The synchros will be worn. If you want it to shift like butter have the synchros replaced and check all the bearings while you're at it.
 
Ya but how many miles are on it and what kind of abuse has it taken?
About the same abuse the white chick grinding in the club gets.

Honestly though i dunno. It grinded when i got the car. Sad thing is its not a 22 spline its a 23.

Ya mind has grinded since I got the car and I tried replacing a bunch of stuff because I was in denial it was actually the tranny but now I can't even shift under heavy load decently fast without getting some kind of grinding.. Hopefully this new tranny works for me and doesn't grind till I can get the tranny built by Dogbox :)
 
Anyone else have input on this? How is everyone 22 spline OE trannies holding up and how do they shift under power after all these years? Tell me even if it has high or low miles! Lol
 
mine has no more 3rd gear synchros...LOL. as stated, remember they are 20 years old. it doesnt matter if its been drove a ton or not. its old parts. think for instance, a 78 year old virgin still aint gonna be as good as a 21 year old slut. it just aint gonna work right. as for the dog box...unless its a pure track car, i would go with the 950 dollar rebuild from shep

Its just my DD, a occasional once to twice a month auto-x car, and my baby. I'm running a 18g with cams and soon meth, I don't launch the car EVER so I'm thinking I should be able to get away for a little while till I can afford to have my other transmission rebuilt. I was gonna go with Dogbox for my rebuild, because I can get it for $750 :sneaky:

I just need to get this tranny installed, my clutch is almost toast and Tim from TMZ has been waiting for me to call for a couple weeks so bleh idk I've just kinda been procrastinating because I'm not looking forward to dropping my tranny, its easy but so time consuming..
