Okay. Here's my problem. I just bought a 95 Eclipse with 150,000 miles on it.
Judging from the looks of it, doesn't seem like they took care of it.
I got it for 1500.00 considering the fact it runs like sh!t.

Here's what it's doing: Unstable Idle. When you give it gas, it hesitates and putters. Jumps, Highly unstable. Then slow to return back to its idle.

At first, THEY, the sellers, thought it was clogged Cat. Converter.
Nope, then they said its needs new fuel filter, and clean the fuel injectors.

My bestfriend said it sounds like it may need a fuel pump, because he had similar problems with his camaro.

My father, great mechanic, but only for fords and chevys. so if it's not chevy or ford, he'll tell me ..."i dont know anything about those cars."

So its up to me to learn. But he did suggest it could be the 'Idle Sensor.'

Any other suggestions?

I havent got underneath the hood to locate where all the components are yet, really.
Kinda cold outside. So if you can tell me where I can find, like say, fuel filter...I believe the Fuel Injectors is where the intake manifold is...so I can find those. Anything else?

Any suggestions to whats wrong with it?

Also...Clutch seems a lil TOO light. Such a thing? And the tranny seems a lil tight, lil stiff, to put into gear. Friend of mine thinks he feels a lil grind. Suggestions as far as that?

Aiight well I'm a newbie, and just need some ideas to look into.

You should try testing the sensors, clean out youre throttle body, perform tune up and other maintenance work needed. For youre clutch try flushing out youre fluid and rebleed it and for the trans put new fluid in it.
 
Okay, about the idle, I'd try a can of seafoam. Search it on this site, you'll find TONS of info. About the tranny, you're lucky the shifting's not worse with that many miles. Drain the tranny fluid and buy Pennzoil synchromesh, you'll see a night and day difference. And, once again TONS of info if you search on this too. Good luck.

Pennzoil Synchromesh on a N/T? :confused:
 
Whoops my bad. I didn't see the N/T. Scratch that, but seafoam is still good dtuff for any car. I even use it on my 5.0.
 
to me it does sound like a bad fuel filter and possibly clogged injectors, i'd go with that, you should replace/clean close anyways considering 150,000 mile and i'd put good money on it that they never did them.
 
I agree...I'm also taking in consideration of what members are telling me in my other thread "Idle Unstable" This may be both related. So I'll give it a full tune up, oil change, spark plug wires, spark plugs, fill up on transmission fluid, replace the fuel filter, clean the fuel injectors, find out where the hell the TSP or the IAC is...
 
maby try some royal purple total fuel system cleaner. thats stuff works wonders. pretty much all i can come up with is. the car has 150,000 miles. according to you the previous owners didnt take care of it. so it sounds like it just needs a little tlc and elbow grease. plugs,wires,clean the throttle body with some intake cleaner (i get a can of it spray it in the throttle body with the butter fly open till about half the can is open. then i start the car. it will have trouble running so you may have to cup your hand over the throttle body and play with the throttle and continue spraying the rest of the can. put everything back together and let the car run at idle for a good 10 minutes while its running it may smoke a little bit.) totaly flush and change all fluids. check all sensors, check timing, and clean her up real good. I allways say if your good to her she'll be good to you. Good Luck and dont be afarid to ask questions. thats what this place is here for.

yeah I dont want to sound stupid, but I dont have a repair manual at my advantage..

but can someone tell me where the Fuel Filter is located at?

What I'm looking for...
 
the fuel filter can be very easy to do, or very hard, the best tip i can give u is where safety glasses so you don't get fuel in your eyes, it will burn like hell for 10 minutes, remember to plug where the fuel comes out when changing it or you'll waster some gas, make sure the filter in and out is going the right way or it won't flow right and waste time. There really easy to do just a lot can go wrong with doing it.

+Ecoline New Battery
+AutoLite New Spark Plugs (measured 40 thousandth)
+Puralator Fuel Filter
+Slick50 Fuel Injector Cleaner
+New Altenator Belt

Tomorrow is supposed to be 40degrees and sunny...so hopefully I can get my lazy azz out there, jack it up...take the passenger-side, front wheel off, replace the fuel filter, and get the altenator belt on.
Pour in the Fuel Injection Cleaner, Pull out the fuel Injectors...clean those off...Clean the throttle Body out...Fire it up...and hope for the best.

Any suggestions before I go into this bundle of fun????
