I just installed a different head after my timing belt went. Everything is back together and the break-in period is over. Last night i revved past 5,000 rpm. for the first time and noticed it was struggling, I let off at 5,500. Then a riced-out Honda cruised by so i stepped on it, went to about 6,000 rpm's, now theres a huge cloud of smoke behind my car. I opened the hood to notice my dipstick shot up, and oil sprayed all over the underneath of my hood, then dripped all over the motor and exhaust. What could be the problem? I already replaced the PCV valve and does the same thing???

psssssssssssssst GO TO THE DEALER AND BUY YOU A NEW DIP STICK, It worked for me, good luck....................(an old dipstick shoots up, because the rubber is old and hard)

Sounds to me like your bottom end is getting wore out. Mine had the same prob, and even a new dipstick can do it if they are bad enough. My suggestion would be to consider a lower miles used engine or a rebuild of the current one. the good thing about a rebuild on the current one is you are catchin it before any major damage occurs, so you can save yourself money on the rebuild.

I crimped it a little bit.
but when I drive or hit like 5,000 it pops out.

NOT out but up.

if I RACE or something it sprays oil at the hood.

any advice?

Driving home yesterday from school, nice day out so i got the music blasting. I come to a stop light. Then after about 10 seconds notice smoke coming from my hood. I see its a little black and know right away its oil, but how? I pull into a parking lot and pop the hood. And to my surprise i was right. but the dipstick had to be about 3-4 inches popped out. Oil was everyone, so when i got home i washed the engine bay. Has this every happened to you guys? is there a cure......

My 90 did the same thing, I changed the PCV valve and it helped a little bit. What I ended up doing was putting a light crimp in the tube with a pair of vice-grips so that the dipstick had some pressure on it when it when into the hold. After that it never poped out anymore.

I have the same problem. It seems like once it does it once, it never stops. Ever since I lowered my car it's been doing it. You've gotta be really careful on how you hit bumps in these cars cuz they're kinda low even at stock height.

The only way to fix it is to buy a NEW dipstick. If you buy one from a junkyard/parts car, you're gonna have the same problem. The rubber/foam piece that usually secures tightly has become worn over the years and it doesn't wanna stay tight. So when you hit a bump, it jumps up and causes oil to leak out towards the right side of the engine bay.

Mine even made its way onto the outside of the hood, and one time the oil made it's way clear up to my windshield washer nozzle. OMG

Either get a new dipstick, or just learn to live with it, like I do.

Hope this helps. :thumb: :dsm:

Tech doesn't go in the Hangout, man. You can also put a bend in the stick opposite to the curve of the tube.

How a PCV valve helped your dipstick not pop out is beyound me LOL.

Just crimp it and cal it a day. Its a very common thing for the 1g dipstick to pop out under high boost levels. You say you were just driving along but at some point between when you got in the car and when you noticed smoke you were on it full bore.

Either:

1. Crimp it like everyone is saying
2. Buy a 2g dipstick and never have to deal with it again

Either way works great.

Buy a new dipstick like i did it never did it again. What happens is the air has to go somewhere so it pushes out of the dip stick so get a new one the ruber could be worn out around it.

Everytime i race somebody my dipstick pops out and sprays oil everywhere. Any body know as to why this happening? Anybody else have this problem?

This is a common occurence, for a quicker response you can try using the search utility and doing a search on these forums, or else going to vfaq.com

your dip stick pops out cause it is old, over time the rubber around the dipstick starts to crack and deterorate from intense heat created by the turbo and engine. A solution is either take a pair of vice grips and "pinching" the metal tube at the top that holds the dipstick or pay like $15 from Satan for a brand new one.

That could also mean that you are experiencing a bit of crancase pressure.
If possible, take a rubber hose, attach it on the dip stick tube and attach it to a boost gauge.
Drive the car under boost and post what readings you got.
I am currently trying to figure out why my rear main is leaking, someone said blow by which would result in positive crankcase pressure, possibly forcing my seal out.
My needle barely budged when my test was performed.
I am still looking for an answer, the seal was done not too long ago.

Today I started my car and it idled kind of rough. The next thing I noticed was the smell of burnt oil.I pop the hood and decide to pull the dipstick out and white smoke was blowing out.I replaced the dipstick and removed the motor oil cap and white smoke was blowing out of there too.I replaced the cap and removed the hose next to the crank sensor and smoke was blowing out of there also.I think the engine is on its way out.Any info on whats going on/or could be happening will be appreciated.

Man, sorry dood, that sounds like blown headgasket. I could be wrong, but I remember white smoke coming out of mine when mine blew. Check your oil, and see if it is mushy. You are more than likely leaking water into it. I would immiately do a compression check on there, and see if you are running above a hundred in each one. This is easy to do.

hey dont know if your still paying attention to this post but when u elft my driveway after reving the shit out of your engine i saw some blue smoke come from under the bumper dont know what it was comeing from but nice drive by :D but i would be scared to rev my car like that LOL

My friends 1st gen eclipse, when he is running about 17 pounds of boost the oil dipstick flies out of the hole and oil sprayes all over the underside of the hood. I have read that eclipses have this problem. I was wondering what people are doing to prevent this? Thank you.

in response to the comments about an engine that's past it's prime doing this: my engine has <20k mi on it and i seem to be shooting oil out of my dipstick (i discovered it the same way that sabrewulf did). anyway, i agree with the idea that the rubber gets worn and hard so that it no longer stays put. this just seems to be accurate because the last day that i drove my car it was below the freezing threshold; so i'm willing to guess that the rubber was also pretty frozen when i started out that day with a brisk jaunt on the on-ramp :D
