I just installed a different head after my timing belt went. Everything is back together and the break-in period is over. Last night i revved past 5,000 rpm. for the first time and noticed it was struggling, I let off at 5,500. Then a riced-out Honda cruised by so i stepped on it, went to about 6,000 rpm's, now theres a huge cloud of smoke behind my car. I opened the hood to notice my dipstick shot up, and oil sprayed all over the underneath of my hood, then dripped all over the motor and exhaust. What could be the problem? I already replaced the PCV valve and does the same thing???

I decided to cover all the bases with my response..even though the origonal poster said he had a new dipstick. That way when noobs search, like there supposed to, they can get all the info they need. Thanks for the input....;)

i was having this problem too..it is pretty common when turning up the boost in a dsm but it shouldnt be taken to lightly either..just watch the oil level in your car and as long as you dont start to hear any knocking or lose compression then i wouldnt worry to much about it..

BTW..my car was doing this and i had eventualy cracked the piston..not saying you will but i unfortunatly did with these symptons occuring..

Ok, thanks guys!

This forum is awesome, and I really appreciate everyone's input... :)

Just for the record, I did a compression test less than a month ago, and it was 180, 180, 175, 180 (I have a jspec motor - 8.8:1 compression). I'm pretty sure that is alright...

Well, thanks again - EA

That happened to me and I almost pissed my pants. Big cloud of white smoke behind me. Crimp the end of the dipstick tube. It will stay in.

Peace

Will

Those are real good numbers, you more that likely are not gettin blow by too much. Replace yoru PCV valve (not a fram one) and see if that fixes it, it is probly old and plugged.

Just bought one of of the dealer about, oh not even a month ago, and tonight for the first time i reved it out in second to 6000 and didnt the ####in thing blow out again:mad: Wasnt much of a mess but its a real piss of, #### its as loose now as the old one and only 3 and half weeks old.
What to do next??
I heard of somepeople on here puttin hoses and shit over them but...
What do u guys recomend to stop this ????

I've heard of folks crimping the top of the tube with pliers. I've never tried it as I don't have that problem ... yet.

Bend the dipstick in the opposite direction form the way the tube bends. Tension is your friend.

yea kris has got some nice pressure all over his engine he knows what's up :p

Your rings are tired. You may have to devise a clamp to keep that dipstick in under the pressure. Is your crankcase breather clear, and open to either a tank or the intake? How's your PCV valve?

Pcv valve is new
I got a aftermarket filter with a fuel filter/catchcan on the valve cover.
And piston rings giving me blow by?? I dont think its that i know what u guys are talkin about, but when it was new it would stay in and it was nice and tight, like a 14 year old LOL!!
No but it just dried out all of a sudden and the #### if im buying another one for 27.00$
So maby like someone said crush it a little so it tightens the o rings in tighter for a better snug fit!!

That's your problem. Have you tried blowing through that fuel filter lately? I bet it's completely clogged. Never ever use a fuel filter as a catch can, it clogs up in only a couple weeks.

......unless you change it every few weeks. ;)

I breather filter is a much better idea, or if you like bling, an RRE catchcan:thumb:

Anything with a "filter" will clog up from the vapors. I either vent directly to the ground, or to an "open top" catch can, or to a vented catch can, all filterless. :thumb:

your 14 year old is now an 85 year old whore LOL

on my 2nd gen i had it blow out a few times, it was REALLY messy, so i got a piece of coat hanger and made a holddown for it

take a piece of heater hose about 2 inches ling. Split it by cutting down the length and wrap it around the stink and tube. Put a worm clamp directly over the point where the stick and tube meet, and tighten clamp. I know, it is ghetto, but until I have money for a bottom end rebuild, this keeps the POS down and the oil in. NOTE; I have good compression so I'm not sweating my rings right now.

Is this possible?

I have OIL on my intake manifold
and the ONLY thing that makes sense is that the dipstick poped out and OIL came out of the hole.

Is this possible? Does the oil have enough pressure to come OUT of the dipstick hole?

because other than that I don't see where the oil is coming from.

"You are a dsmer if you can shoot your dipstick 20 feet"

Yes it is very normal for this to happen, its just the rubber plug thing at the top of the stick gets worn out and doesn't hold it in underpreasure. All you have to do is go buy a new one.

I just took pliers and slightly crimped the dipstick tube, worked like a charm. It doesnt pop out anymore at all, even on those extended high-rpm runs...;)

My oil cap leaks like a bi*** as well, shoots oil into the spark plug valley (BAD), and all over the valve cover and intake. I tried to use an O-ring, no luck
The part number for the oil cap gasket is MD311638

He is sort of correct. Under normal operating cinditions, there should not be enough pressure in the crankcase to pop out the dipstick tube. On older turbocharged engines this can occur however as pitson rings wear and compression drops. Some of the compressed air from the turbo will actually pass through the worn piston rings in the cylinder and into the crankcase causing high crankcase pressure. The easiest way for the crankcase pressure to relieve is through the dipstick.

Another way to explain this is that your engine is past its prime and you may want to take a look at the condition of your engine internals.
