I just installed a different head after my timing belt went. Everything is back together and the break-in period is over. Last night i revved past 5,000 rpm. for the first time and noticed it was struggling, I let off at 5,500. Then a riced-out Honda cruised by so i stepped on it, went to about 6,000 rpm's, now theres a huge cloud of smoke behind my car. I opened the hood to notice my dipstick shot up, and oil sprayed all over the underneath of my hood, then dripped all over the motor and exhaust. What could be the problem? I already replaced the PCV valve and does the same thing???

A clogged PCV valve could be the cause but the last time I was popping my dipstick it was due to worn rings causing too much blow by.

I'd stop messin the VR6's for now, you could end up hitchin a ride with the next one.

IMHO

easy fix

this was happening to me on my new engine, scared the crap outta me i thought my engine was gonna catch fire.

our friends here in the forums gave me a few tips to fix it.

1. the breather filter - if you dont have one get one.

2. the PCV valve - as mentioned above check to see if its clean.

3. take a pair of VISE GRIPS - crimp the dipstick tube about 1/4 of an inch down from the top. caution -- only a very slight crimp is needed, too much and you wont be able to get your dipstick back in (or out for that matter).

i crimped my tube and havent had a problem since. hope thiis helps.

If my rings are worn would I still get fill power out of my car and what other signs would I have??

That use to happen to me untill i bought a new dip stick from the factory.

But your either getting blow by or it could be that when your boosting all that pressure has to go somewhere.:dsm:

If its the rings you will most probably notice a drop in acceleration and overall power. Also, the dipstick won't "pop" until the motor is under some stress (i.e. heavy acceleration, climbing a grade, etc.).

If you have high miles on your motor and / or you stress it often (i.e. street racing), I would suggest doing/getting a compression check done. This will let you know if you have worn rings.

I have 98,000 miles I hardly drive my car and I dont street race but sometimes I step in it a little. My acceleration and my power are great, but Im going to get the compression check out. Thanks

I guess that answers u question ecaue i didnt pay $8 for mine thats for shure. Well i hope that solves your problem. later :dsm:

That's pretty common, if your car runs strong, it's probably the seal is worn out. Just like cucumber said, snatch up an oem replacement. I heard of someone fabricating something to hold it down but that's just more work than needed.

pcv system puts boost in your case, eliminate your pcv system and put a catch can/filter on there.... will keep your turbo/piping/IC from getting oil on them from the intake tract...

It is a common problem, but it could be a sign that something is not sealing correctly and you are getting excessive crankcase blow by (I think that is what it is called). You might want to do a leakdown test or something. Getting a new dipstick or crushing the tube a little may help but I would not tie it down too tight, if the pressure cannot escape thru the dip stick pipe it will find another place, like thru a gasket seal. Might not be anything, but better safe than sorry.

I had that happen frequently to me too, I just crushed the tube a little so the dipstick fits tight, that was about 4 months ago and no problems so far well no problems that can be a result of that , that is. LOL AHHHHH DSM's you gotta love em'

Well about a month ago, I was boosting the car (15lbs.) and driving pretty fast, etc. A little white smoke came out from under the hood (burning oil) so I popped the hood, and noticed my oil dipstick had popped out - oil was everywhere..

I ran the problem by a friend, and he said to order a new one. I installed the new dipstick, and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Today however, when I popped the hood, the dipstick was about 2" out and oil was splashed everywhere...

My dad (who's a mechanic) told me that there isn't supposed to be any pressure there, and that its something internal! :( Any help you guys could give me in diagnosing this problem would be very helpful. Thanks again, EA.

This happens when you turn up the boost and you get more blow by past the rings...It will pressurize the crankcase and that pressure pushes the dipstick out. It happens to everybody and it dosen't always mean its time for a rebuild. The dipstick has a rubber stopper that grips the dipstick tube and holds it in place... after 10 or so years it gets pretty week and even the slightest bit of pressure will pop it out. The easy way to fix this is to take a pair of pliers and gently squeeze the tube so the stick grips better. Or you can order up a new dipstick that might do the trick..You would be suprised how worn out and beat most of the DSM motors are out there...so don't get to worried about a re-build. If you are just check the compression to be sure..

He did install a new dipstick, Dipstick.:D
Didnt read the hole thread:confused:
BTW I have an old original dipstick in my GST running 14 psi And have never encountered this problem, Yet.
